Best replacement A/C compressor
Help a A/C dummy. All I really know about it is how to appreciate it.(and I really really do)
Mine locked up. Clutch is fine. It's already converted to 134 gas. I have yet to go into the system, but whats the best way to check for possible compressor debris and clean, if necessary?
Also, I realize "nice rhymes with price", but whats the lest expensive good quality replacement compressor? I don't want to save $42 and do it again this summer. but I don't want to go to the dealer either. What other components should I replace at the same time?
Thanks in advance for helping the freon-challenged...

I did my '89 last year. The best price I found was at Advance Auto Parts website, It was one that the local store couldn't get for some reason. I don't remember the price though. There was a post a couple of days ago about being able to use other Dodge compressors by trimming off one of the ears, Maybe someone will chime in on that. As far as other parts to change, at a minimum replace the dryer. I would consider the H Valve as well. Since you haven't worked AC much, are you sure it is froze up. When you jumper the low pressure switch, what happens? If it is froze up with debris then you will need to flush the system and change the high pressure hose, It has a manifold that will not flush.

Just look for a rebuilt. Anything new besides at Dodge house, which is probably no longer avail, will be crap from China. I went to a local Discount parts store, and have had no problems for 2 years, and it ran me either 180 or 280, I cant remember.
