I really like the new BD and Holley positive displacement pump. Nice piece if you ask me.

I've got an airtex mounted on the frame, about 20000 miles on it, still @ 17psi idle, 14 psi wot.

Stock pump works well and will last a long time IF you install a fuel pressure regulator. I installed a Simflow regulator and havn't had to replace a lift pump since then. The regulator was about $45 and is the best thing you can do for the fuel primary system.

Walbro 392 is supposed to be a good pump. I bought one a couple of years ago but havn't had to install it yet because my present lift pump (Campaign lift pump) shows no sign of quitting.

Most people will be sceptical of what I say about the need for a pressure regulator and all I can say is, "Try it!"

A lot of stock lift pump failures are not failures of the pump itself but of the pressure relief valve built in with the pump, and the external regulator, set at 12psi, takes the load off the built-in pressure regulator valve.

Where did you find this Simflow Regulator. Do you have an intank LP, and if so where does this regulator hook in?

Simflo (not Simflow) is available from Vulcan Performance

http://www.vulcanperformance.com/ser...gulator/Detail

I bought mine from WideOpenDiesel but they do not seem to be carrying it anymore.

I do not have the intank LP. I have a Campaign Lift Pump (very similar to the stock LP) mounted on the frame in front of the fuel tank.

The regulator is mounted at the inlet to the VP44 and drains into the return line from the VP44, downstream of the check valve.

I have the regulator set at 12psi and that is all that the VP needs. The 12psi setting eliminates stress on the internal pressure relief valve inside the stock LP.

Is there any way to have a secondary LP with the LP in the tank. I want to boost pressure but have an in tank LP.

You could add an inline LP but then you will have hard starts because of too much pressure. Been there, done that. You can install a pressure regulator to keep pressure under control and that will solve the hard start problem.

Two LPs will work to give you adequate pressure but now you have two LPs, either of which could fail. There is no easy way around the intank LP.

If I understand the explanation, fuel cannot be drawn through the intank LP. Is that correct? So for the inline pump to work, the intank has to be pumping.

Depends.

With the stock LP, most of the time, fuel can be drawn thru a stalled pump. It depends on the position of the rotor vanes at the stalled state.

Dunno about the intank LP, I have never even seen one of those.
