best brake pads??

and yes i just tried the search.... all it said is i have to wait 60 seconds between searches, but i didnt do a search prior to that... oh well. i know it has been discussed here before, what are the best brake pads to go with for towing? without having to replace the whole system, just pads with the stock rotors... and where do i get them?

I have been using Performance Friction pads from Auto Zone since 2001. They have been great for towing our 10k + 5th wheel and seem to last as long as anything else without much dusting.

i was looking at those as well. i think without upgrading the rotors as well, i'm kinda limited. the brake dust would be a nice thing to avoid too, i cant seem to keep my wheels clean for more than a few days.

I've been using the Wagners, Thermo Quiet. They've been real good for me, about 15k-18k miles and I haul a ton.....well several tons, but you get the idea.

I am going to investigate this myself, I just had a eye opening experience. Went to Gatlinburg TN and drove up to Ober Gatlinburg. On the way down I got my front brakes smoking, figured my 3500 brakes where good enough to stop 21k gross right?? Well they faded with just the truck no trailer, bad fade as well, the pads gassed out. So going to work on this, really was surprised at how easy they gassed.

Brake Pads"

I picked up Some Akebono Ceramic Pads Supposed to be good ones for Our Ram-2500 Brakes. In Past I had EBC Performance Rotors and Pads Green Stuff " on my 2-nd Gen, Rotors were Slotted Stopping power was definately a notch beyond Stock. I just ordered a Pair Of Front Power Slot Cyro Treated Rotors From Diesel Performance Parts, they should be on the way to me this week as it take a little longer when you want Cyro Treated ones along with some added expense. But I have herd nothing but Good reports on Cyro Treated Rotors VS Not .

Very good question, I dont know as the pads where on the truck when I got them. I suspect they are some autozone, or pepboy crap since the owner did not even clean up the rotors before the new pads. I Need to put it onto the lift and redo the brakes very soon. The rotors are fine, I never let the truck sit after the issue I kept rolling it around the parking lot letting them cool more even and checked them after. No cracking, warping or burnt rotors. I have killed many rotors on my car, one set at 160mph lol.

My thinking in this case is the rotors never reached max temp only the pads. Cheap pads will start to gas at 400*, I have run ebc greens on my Stealth with power slots and gassed those as well. Reds are great but are slow to heat up, need something in between really.
