Whats the opinion on the best battery for my 1995 CTD?

The Champion XLT Extreme Performance sold at Sam's for $100 is a good one. They can be abused and not damaged, better shock and vibration protection, absorbed glass mat, no liquid, sealed. Besides, they look like a sixpack.

Don't laugh.......but the Wal-Mart Ever Start Maxx is a very good battery, and a great deal. Rated at 900 CCA, but here's the good part, full replacement if it dies within 36 months, not pro-rated.

I like the everstart maxx,have had great luck with them and the change out is a bonus also, Now I have also had superior perfomance with the optimas on the farm, they just seem to keep on going like the bunny rabbit when used for rough service. Goodluck, Rick

as much as I despise wally world I have found the maxx a good deal especially with ease returning it wally world never asks questions even w/out receipt

The Gel batteries are supposed to be the best.

Such as the Exide Orbital or Optima.

Its nice not to have to worry about the acid, freezing or maintence.

However, the $129 price tag hurts.

Used NAPA 1220 amp batteries in both my 89 and 95.

go with the optima, you won't be sorry. There down to about $100 now most places.

Cool!, a battery war!

Guys, I know how much you like to go into the parts store and say "Give me your most expensive battery", but I have some bad news for you. Optima's can't compare to a tried and true wet cell.

Example:
Optima Red or Blue CCA rating is 800 Amp
Wal-Mart EverStart Maxx CCA rating is 900 Amp and is 40% less in price.

I know they look , but ampere for ampere they don't stand up to a heavy duty wet cell of your choice.

I'm running a single optima. Never had any cold start problems. I wouldn't saythat it's the best battery that's on this planet, but it was available and does it's job. (And it was on sale so it was actually cheaper than one wet cell battery which would have been a special order)

And then there are people that say "why would I buy a Fleetguard filter when I can get this KMart special filter for $.50 less?" I don't just give money away, but it never ceases to amaze me how someone will try to save a minimal amount of money on a lesser part to put on their 25-35K truck.

We changed from wet cell batteries at work to Optimas in our Durango squad cars and all our 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. All these vehicles have very heavy charging system loads becuase of all their accessories. We get triple the life out of the batteries and no corrosion problems. I don't know what you are basing your statement that Optima's can't compare to a tried and true wet cell on. There are more to batteries than just CCA.

optima batteries have been in my truck for about 2 months now. Its still early to tell how good they are. But I've been running optima in my boat 2001 bayliner 215. 5.0engine for about a year now. stereo alwayse on. never had a problem. my opnion great battery.
