Best 24v mods to +mpg and +grins
Okay what would you guys recommend for mods to increase mpg's and add a few 's? I run 80+ miles to work one way, almost all interstate speeds and pretty much stock rig short of the BHAF, and cleaning up the exhaust next weekend to open stacks, so she'll be able to breathe a bit easier. But at 65mph I'm running about 2200 rpm, w/8-10psi boost at level cruise, boost seems high to me for running empty. As I understand it the best mpg's are obtained with minimal boost and running around 1900-2200rpms, would larger injectors (275's or so?) help fuel better and cut down on needed boost for cruising? Or would I end up making things worse? I've gathered from readings that the 24v's respond better to injectors than boxes. Then again I'd still I'd like to be able to blow a bit of smoke when I want to, stock I can barely get a puff. Of course more go pedal helps kill the mpg's, but its the daily long drives I'm looking to pick up the economy.
I've really considered adding the LP injection, but still not satisified on all my research that it would be truly beneficial, not to mention having a hard time finding an LP dealer that will fill the tanks i have from an old LP forklift.
BTW changing the front and rear gears from 4.10's is really out of the question. Every now and again I do a bit of towing and some of it rather heavy.
I know a 10K+ pound truck getting 18+ is fantastic but I know she can do better. Whatcha guys think?

I would go for the Mach 1.5 or 2s and a mild box, like the EZ or VanAaken.
Make sure you have gauges.
Running a tailgate net or with tailgate down will be less air resistence.
What size tires are you running? What tranny?
With 4.10s your RPMs are very high on the highway. I would want at least 235/85R16s.
And keep your speed down to get mileage, especially with that gearing.

The truck was designed to flow air from front to rear with as little turbulance as possible. With the tailgate down you are disrupting the air flow which hurts your MPG.............Pete

Gauges are already in and working great..
GlennRMK - 6sp tranny, and the tires are 235/85-16's stock AP's. Considered moving up to 255/85's to reduce the rpm's a bit but they are too wide for DRW, and I don't like the spacer idea.
With any luck I'll have the exhaust done this weekend, custom fab for under the bed stacks.
Tailgate up/down....don't even want to get into that war at all
Guess I'll start shopping around a bit for injectors for the next mod and see what that'll do. Maybe get lucky and find someone who's traded up and save a few $$$

You can put bigger tires on a dually, I know someone that is running 305 or 315 on a dually. I think that is the sizw but I know they are over a 285. Just start looking around.

What`s the significance of adding gauges?
Will these mods offer anything positive to the new 600 engine? I`ve got one on order and may even get it someday, LOL.

WOW, that is going to be a great truck People just install gauges to keep an eye on things like egt and boost, the other reason is to keep an eye on fuel pressure because the 24 valves are know to have the lift pumps go bad. I am going to get guages when I get the money.
