Best $2.77 AC mod.

I added some 134a to my AC last summer and I discovered the orifice tube is along the right fender (my battery box isn't there anymore) and them pendejos at Dodge didn't insulate the line from there to the firewall. I finally remembered to pick up some Armaflex and insulate it a couple of weeks ago and it made more than just a little difference. I should have checked some temps before and after but I didn't. The electric fans, up front, helped with slow driving but now I have cold cold air in 1 mile after start-up and I can freeze the gnards off a brass monkey if I want too and it was 106 today. The insulation is good to 220. I'll switch to fiberglass if it melts. Craig

Interesting. Did you use the 3/8" version?

Looks like the smallest I can find at Lowes or Home Depot is 1/2". Wonder if that would work.

Look for a hvac/r supplier. Refer tubing goes by the OD and we have way more ODs in the smaller sizes (1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 1/2, 5/8 and 3/4) than plumbing. Plumbing copper goes by the inside nominal dimension. The line I insulated is 1/2"OD. Our 5/8" is 1/2" to a plumber and our 1 1/8" is 1" to them. I used 1/2 x 3/8 - 3/8 wall thickness, 1/2 ID and that was tough enough to get in there. The Johnstone Supply pt# is B92-124. It's not presplit. I split it with a razor knife and slid it over the line little by little and stuck it back together with contact adhesive, about 3" at a time. It wasn't fun but it sure was worth it. I just looked in Graingers and they don't have that size. They've been trying for 20 yrs to get a cut of the hvacr business and they don't know how to do it right. The big brand AC dealers should have it if they have a parts dept. - Carrier, Trane, York McQuay etc. Craig

Other line, the accumulator is in the return side, But you could do both sides.
