I have two factory bench seats, a 90 and a 91, both alike.

There are head-rests on both these seats.

The head-rest consists of a U-shaped steel rod, that slides in and out of the seat back, with the foam padding of the rest molded around the U-shaped top portion.

I can slide these steel rods up, until they stop at the upper limit.

How do I get them all the way out/loose from the seat, so that I can rebuild them??

Is there a hidden trigger; or, do I just yank hard and tear something up??

Should just have to squeeze the plastic bushing that the rod slides into to release them.

I don't really know exactly which squeeze did it; but, after getting after those plastic bushings with some long-jawed needle-nose pliers, the rods sort of jumped out, rather ferociously.

For those that might be up against this, in the future, there is a notch on each rod, just inside the plastic bushings, on the in-board side.

There is a wire/spring, wrapped around the upper end of each plastic bushing, that (I think ) holds a portion of the bushing in that notch, when the rods are extended, stopping them from coming all the way out.

At least that is my theory.
