Well to beat a dead horse or a horse which is in mortal danger of expiring, I just ordered a 5 inch exhaust system for my truck. I have done quite a bit of research on this site and the other turbo diesel websites about the best air filter (and the one that will make your turbo sound the loudest, of course!!!). And IMHO, even though it's a lil pricey, I want to get the Scotty II system. I am even more set on this due to the fact of all the ngeative things i been hearin about hte BHAF setup.

Also, I dont know where exactly on the cowl to drill the hole w/ the 4.5 inch hole saw. Is the Scotty II easy to install. Any suggestions before I shell out the money for a Scotty II or should I just bite the bullet and get the BHAF setup?? Thanks for any input or help!

The Scotty works just like you have heard.

I've had the BHAF and as good as it works, Scotty II works better!

Drilling the cowl is easy, the 4 1/2 hole saw really only fits in one spot and that is where you drill it. It kind of fits in between various body crimps and bends, just like it sounds.

It's easy and well worth it, go for it!

The scotty 2 is incredibly easy to install. Attach the filter to the intake tube, drill the 4.5" cowl hole (the instructions will show you where) and then lay it down in there. It takes all of 20 minutes including drill the hole. It was very easy.

IT might take you about 42 hours, but read the forum 'Disadvantages to a BHAF.' Very informative reading, like I was tellin you tonight alot of opinions on this here website!

Well I know that I haven't had any issues with my current BHAF setup. It gets the job done and only costs around $70 compared to some of the other higher priced systems.

You know what they say.....opinions are like edit.....everybody has one and majority of them STINK

YA, $70 sure sounds alot better than 200+ shipping for the Scotty II. But I keep hearin tell the Scotty II makes the turbo so stinkin loud. Maybe I'll just try the BHAF 1st and see how I like it. Either way, I'll sound like Delta Flight 257 comin down second Avenue

Scotty himself will tell you this - if you have a stock truck (that is....no fueling mods) the Scotty 2 isnt going to do much for you (other than provide good filtration). The Scotty 2 shines by providing exhaust gas temperatuire reduction on bombed trucks.

But, if you are looking for loud noise inside the cab - its the way to go. As well, when you compare it to the other intake systems on the market - its not pricey.

Buy a 4.5 inch hole saw and drill the hole as per scotty's instructions from his website, then you'll hear more turbo noise in the cab- even with a stock air box, and then add the scotty air or bhaf and it'll be even louder =P

I bought a Scotty II from a buddy. I think it actually made the turbo noise more tolerable over the open air filter I was running before. I drilled the whole per the directions, no problems. Just make sure you cover the inlet to your turbo prior to any drilling. What I noticed most from the Scotty was how quick the EGT fall after getting out of the coal, like a rock.

Scotty install is easy but one thing I've learned the hard way when installing them is to drill the 1/4" pilot hole for the hole saw first. What happens if you don't is as soon the pilot drill breaks though the hole saw will instantly grab and about twist your arm off.

i plan on having close to 500 hp here pretty soon. will the bhaf do this? i dont know why it wouldnt, but ya never know. and if i drill the 4.5" in the firewall with just the bhaf will it make it noticably louder?

With 500hp your BHAF is going to restrict you. They just don't flow enough air to support it. I strongly recommend getting a scotty 2 and drilling the hole. That will flow more than enough air and will help a good bit on EGT's. I'm only at 400hp and I dropped 100* going from a BHAF to the scotty 2.

Just curious guys......cant you get the scottyII and not drill a hold inside your cab.....pros vs cons and why do you have to drill the hole? Will it work just as good with out the hole?
