BD strikes again DOA VP
9 years 300.000 kms on my first vp44 I had changed it out as it was just timed out, did not want to take a chance it would quit on me out in the middle of nowhere. BD pump 1 year 10 months 18.000 miles it DIED. I have been in this diesel game for 40 years have been wrenching on these things just as long. I take care of my equipment and never had a fuel system fail on me. BD attitude to bad so sad buy another one, no problem but NEVER A BD PUMP service job NONE best this could be used for is a door stop. Like I have always said never use old boards even if they test fine they just time out they only can go through so many heat cycles before they quit

I also have a BD rebuilt vp44 pump.Right from the get-go it had hard starting issues when hot,the one that failed did not.I thought it odd that they would spray paint the new rebuild with black paint like a starter.Paint holds heat in and gives the illusion of new. They said they were going to rebuild my exact pump, but after many broken completion dates they give me another pump.Well with what i know now,Blue chip tells it like it is and there are many abuses with this rebuild business.Buy Bluechip.

Let me recommend Scheid Diesel to you guys for future reference. They are a full service Bosch Dealer and do all their VP-44 rebuilds right in their shop in Terre Haute, Indiana. They offer a full one year warranty as long as you don't pierce any of the wires on the pump for fueling boxes etc. and they stand behind their VP-44 pumps which are competitively priced.

Larry Ellis, tell us more about what you know.Is it unusual to get a spray painted pump?Did you read something about rebuilt cheq eslovacian pumps?I haul my RV into the back country and long distances and i cannot afford to take a chance on a sub-standard rebuilt vp44.

Dennis for years here I have watched guys deal with VP 44 issues and one of the things we learned was the black rebuilds came from Czechoslovakia and they had a tendency to not be very reliable....
I have them available from a couple of my wholesale distributors for the DTR Performance Shop but I do NOT sell them...anyone that calls me looking for a VP-44 I send them to Bluechip or Scheids.
Most places can not rebuild them correctly as the proprietary equipment needed from Bosch is cost prohibitive unless they do a LOT of rebuilds.
Over the years I have seen numerous pumps that were so called rebuilds that just had the same old electronics thrown right back on the pump, this is why several have posted here that they mounted them and they would not even start.
Somethings you can go cheap on...the Ignition Pump and the Lift pump are not one of them.

Let me add a little to what Lary has already said.
Scheid Diesel and Blue Chip HAVE those Bosch Test Stands and Calibration Units that Lary is talking about to CORRECTLY and THOROUGHLY rebuild a Bosch VP-44 Fuel Pump. I know that Scheid Diesel has two full-time Technicians trained by Bosch to disassmeble, inspect and then rebuild and
CALIBRATE those VP-44's on a TEST STAND. The Bosch Test Stands are dedicated to the VP-44's and are VERY expensive to the individual shops!
Hope this helps you guys some.
