BD Boost Fooler

Hey, just had a question on the boost fooler I just bought for my truck from BD. I cannot get any more boost than before I had it, the truck is empty though, but I didnt think that that would matter? It has been really cold here though the past couple days, could that affect it at all? I dont have any fuel mods, I just got it for the cooling bennefit, as some others reported that it helped a bit with stock egts.

Thanks, Matt

With my Quad BF it builds more boost unloaded all the time. Not sure on the temperature thing, mine is the same here anywhere from 70ish down to the mid 20's so far.

Mine builds more boost from +100 degrees to -0 degrees ambient. Unloaded you might not see any difference unless you take it to redline. I can hit almost 40 psi unloaded but only at 3200 rpm's. Loade dit will do it under 3000 rpm's.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the difference in brands BD vs. QZ ?
Have not heard anything to say that one is better than the other though.

After I installed it, driving to town I floored the truck on the highway going up a 7-8% grade from 100kms/hr, it did not redline but I only got 25lbs of boost. This is what I would get before installing the boost fooler. Just does not make sense to me.

any other suggestions?

Another thing that I thought of, does the QZ fooler plug into the same spot as the BD? The BD plugs in line with the sensor in the intake manifold.

yes the map sensor. The fooler i think is just a resistor. Resistors do go bad, or maybe that one was no good from the start. Bad connections, poor solder points...ect. ide send it back and get a quad. when i put my quad on the truck, i went from 25 PSI to 45PSI on the stock turbo.

I just got the fooler on Friday, so its not old that is for sure. I definately agree that new parts can be bad, not often but definately possible. I will call the BD guys tomorrow, see what they say. I would have got the quad to begin with but I dont know of anyone that sells their stuff up here in canada. BD makes one, and at a good price, so I thought it would be the same thing anyways. Any Canadian guys know of a place here where I can get a quad fooler without having to order and pay duties and all that across the line?

Thanks, Matt

Yeah, if it wasnt for that, I would have gotten the QZ to begin with! I saw it advertized in my Diesel Power mag for $59! I got the Diesel Power DVD and the duties on that alone were $20!!! Thanks for the replies.

Well the BD tech that I talked to today says that unless I have a programmer, a boost fooler alone will do nothing. So he doesnt think that I have a problem. I tried to explain to him what you all have been experiencing (no programmer....and morse boost with a fooler) and he thinks that it is impossible. So if ayone knows where I can get a QZ in Canada....I think I will just be returning my BD!

Just to confirm this absolutely, you guys that got the higher boost and lower egts were with ABSOLUTELY STOCK programming?! The BD tech seemed to think that I would have to change actual parts or programming to get more boost out of the stock turbo.

NO PROGRAMMER HERE! Only the QZ boost fooler, 35-36 psi anyday, all day! I'm SOOOOO glad I didn't buy the BD one now, I almost did! Good luck getting this resolved. Try talking to a different tech maybe???

Well just talked to someone different at BD and nope.....they quote "will not do a single thing to your boost unless you have a programmer." HMMM. Oh well, their loss. I am returning the BD fooler and my QZ is on order.

Stock fueling, 280 hp uncorrected on the dyno, max 32 psi and leveld at 28 psi before the fooler. Added Quad fooler and lost 200 degrees EGT's and boost would peak mid 30's under medium to hard acceleration. It would hit 40 psi if you took it to red line.

The stock system opens the WG at 32 psi for emissions and to save the turbo. The BD part is defective or not setup correctly. Period.

Enjoy the benfits of the Quad fooler.
