I will be parking my '99 truck for 5 weeks. I believe I read somewhere that there is a slow battery drain that will cause me problems if the truck is not run for 20 days or so. What should I do to my truck so that when I return, I will have no battery issues & all memories are in tact? I might be able to put a trickle charger on a timer & run it a few hours each day??? What have you done that will work for me?

Want about one of those solar panels the you can hook up to your power point. I think they are about 5 watts or something, just lay it on the dash and plug it in and it should keep the batterys up. Just a thought, is the truck going to be outside or in. If inside just pick up a battery tender, we have a couple of those and they work great.

Just disconnect the batteries, all you will lose is the clock and radio station settings.

You can plug in a Battery Minder 24/7/365, and it conditions (desuficates) your batteries.

These are all easy solutions. I have access to a battery tender. If I can figure out how to leave it hooked up for 5 weeks without it getting stolen... , that will probably be my choice.

mount the battery tender under the hood and run the cord under the hood also and tie the cord in a knot under the hood so some on can't just unplug and run off with the cord, and not plug it back in. I have left battery tenders on ou years. no damage done, and that was with checking the level of water 1 time, probaly shold look and the water level more but other than that alls well

Don't think you have much to worry about. Our truck sat for about 3 month. Nothing hooked up to it, Just parked it. Came back and it fired right up, not the best thing to do, sometimes notmuch choice.

dssimecek, That is what I was thinking. Maybe not much to worry about. However, I thought I read somewhere... maybe in the service book that something died after 20 days I have a hard time believing the radio, clock, & other computer functions would suck the batteries dry in 5 weeks. Even so, I'll probably do as fox man4 did. Tie it all up under the hood.

this is what we use on boats. also, i would think it would be a great theft preventative.
