Batteries For TH?

I have a 2005 Pioneer ASV toy hualer with a single 12v RV/Marine Batt. I am moving to alaska this summer and will be doing some dry camping a long the way and while up there. I was just wondering if using a second 12v RV/Marine Batt would be ok, and if my inverter/charger would handle it ok. I know some people use 6v but I already have a new 12v and would like to use it if my trailers charging system will handle it.

thanks
Jake

Just hook them up in paralell, and if you have the room to do it you could add 2 or more just make sure they are vented properly and the cables are securely attached. When I had my 32ft toy hauler i snuk in 2 extra deep cycle batterys on the tray near the generator and hooked them up in paralell.(when your dry camping , they dont like to hear the generator running). I found that 1 batterey would only last a day and a half, but with 3 I could go 4 days befor having to charge them up.

I'm sure your TH has a 3 stage converter. It should easily handle 3-4 extra batteries much less 1 more.

Proper venting is a must. When batteries charge they give off Hydrogen gas which is very explosive.

As a side note, a system of parallel batteries will perform best if both batteries are the same type, capacity (amp hours) and close to the same age...

Since you already have one that's pretty new, getting a second 12v in parallel might make sense, bang for the buck wise, but I'd get an identical battery if you can.

Use some stout cables to interconnect the batteries.

What are you going to do in AK? Just curious...I lived there for a couple years and miss it every day.

Well thanks for all the great input. I guess I will buy another new Batt and hook it all up, as for ventilation it sits right on the tounge in the open.
