I have an '07 with 65K miles on it. Factory batteries are still working fine. Winter is coming, so I'll be watching for changes.

Every few years, Consumer reports does a battery test. Interstate, Diehard, and Duralast are usually the top three for cold climates. I'v been using Duralast in most of my vehicles with good results.

When the batteries in my Ram die, I'll stop by Autozone and get two new ones.

There are only a handful of battery manufacturers. I went to Deka/East Penn Manufacturer's plant and picked up 2 factory seconds. I think Deka makes the Duralast brand.

I paid $160 each.

Unless you are having problems I would not be to quick to replace the batterys. I just replaced mine at 110K and they were still going strong but thought it was time, both still have the little green liglht working so I turned in 2 other old batterys and will use the take outs around the farm untill they give up.

kk thanks i guess i well wait until they start to show signs of going bad i was just going by most battery manufactures suggestions as to replace at or close to the 5 year mark. I just did not want to get caught this winter out and about someplace where there was on store to get a new if they went bad.what are some of the signs of a battery going bad other than the truck won't start.

Time to replace can be a tough question. If mine dies, I just call AAA and they'll (eventually) send some one out to jump start the truck. Then I'll replace them.

But if you spend a lot of time in the back country, a dead battery is a serious problem. Replacing them before they fail is not a bad idea.

In Dodge trucks, the symptoms of a battery failure can be a little bizarre. The dash gauges and warning chimes start doing wierd things while running - especially at idle. That's often the first sign of battery failure - before it fails to start or has a slow start.

I hate dealing with corrosion and will never buy another conventional lead acid battery.
Absorbed glass mat (AGM) or dry cell is the only way to go.
My last pair of AGM Optima batteries went for nine years.
Well worth the extra cost.

those are the batteries I really wanted but couldn't justify the $50 each price difference. I remember reading you got a awesome deal on yours due to a military discount...

My batteries were to the point they couldn't start my truck. Thats why I replaced them when i did.

Yeah I was able to get them for $160/ea. The same price my dad paid for Optima's, but his Optima's have been nothing but trouble.
