Basic truck care

Hey there.

Posted this in the Introductions area, got one response....

Anyways..
I recently bought a 2007 2500 with the 5.9L Never really been a dodge fan, but my dad bought the same truck brand new, and I have been impressed. I also drive these trucks at work quite often and they get the beat out of them and still run well.

Anyways. This is my first diesel truck and am just lookin at some basic info I need to know. It it has on it the Quadzilla Adrenaline, a AFE stage 2 Intake, as well as (from what my buddy says) a 4" exhaust, unknown make/model as I bought it used and no paper work for the add ons.

Here is the truck. I would love to hear some basics on how to take care of it.

For the most part follow the service intervals in the owners manual, keep the tires inflated to the right pressure as these trucks are heavy, be sure to use clean fuel from a reliable station that turns over alot of diesel, also drain the fuel seperator on a regular basis, dont rely on the dash light to dictate drain intervals. Im sure someone will chime in with more. Keep it clean and enjoy, nice looking rig

On any used vehicle I would be inclined to change all of the fluids and fuel filter, but it would be helpful to know the current mileage. I had my trans serviced and bands adjusted at 30K. Fill on your sig line to give more details. Looks like a nice ride!

Nice truck.

Axles call for full synthetic 75-90 GL5 changed at 15k intervals if in rough service. They have reuseable rubber gaskets. There is also likely "fill---" stamped on the rear end showing a fill level about 3/4" below the filler hole.

Transfer case I believe is 30k change, with ATF+4. Not sure if you have the G56 stick, or the auto...

There is a flush grease fitting on the double c joint on the front drive shaft.

Fuel filter change at 12k, but I think most run 10k. Injectors are apparently sensitive to fuel contaminants, so adding a 2 micron filter might not be a bad thing.

Coolant is HOAT, change at 5 years/100k.

Valve adjust every 100k.

I'd suggest Fleetguard oil filters, and any quality dsl oil changed according to schedule.

For immediate improvements in filtering the fuel on your truck, Baldwin makes a 5 micron absolute rated fuel filter, (# PF7977) that fits right into the stock Dodge fuel filter housing. This is the best filter you can get to fit into that housing and will do a much better job of filtering the fuel than the stock Mopar or Cummins alternatives. Go to this webpage, http://www.craigsparts.net/craigspar...esel_Fuel.html , and they're at the top left of the page. This is where I buy them from and it's the cheapest place I've found.

Keep it well waxed. Dodge had some previous problems with lighter colors not holding on.

That is a sharp looking grille guard on there.

Also for info on the Quad tuner go to http://www.quadzillapower.com/ and either download the manual if available or call then for a copy of it sent to you , maybe for a small fee. They are great to work with though. Has it had any tranny work done, if an auto or a clutch if a manual? if not then keep the power levels low unless you want to replace parts real soon. If you are heavy footed with increased power the tranny/clutch won't last very long usually.

run additve. i started using it every fill up. cause todays new diesel fuel is low sulfur. the old stuff would keep your truck oh i guess lubed up. but i am in easy access of diesel #1 so when i do fill up with it i dont run additive unless its really really cold.

some may differ with this logic but i been hearing more people reccomending it. i posted this question once here on DTR and half said use it every fill up and the other half said dont.
