Bare with me please 48re?'s

Hey all I'm looking for info only if have it. Not your opinions because something a friend of a friend you know said something or something you read PLEASE.
I'm not a hammer down all the time or do I want to push it to the extreme. But I did buy this Truck to do a job so some pushing is required. Thanks in advanced REALLY I do value it.
I too like many notice weird tranny issues/behavior. Mine well lets say, just odd to me so let me explain if I can.
So what I'm starting to notice are some weird in between shifting almost like a short/moderate stall during. RPMs stay up the hole time so not thinking lose of fuel or power motor wise?
Now I would lean towards more VB just hanging up right I not sure? Now under light throttle(putting through town/daily driving) when it goes between gears it wants to go but holds up like a stall but then moves on to the next gear. Really catches me off guard.
Now towing my 5th this does not happen ( that I can tell) it does real good job a non issue actually(Jr sw1/tq4/tm4) Now I wouldn't think TC right cause it should not be locked up between or during a shift right?? This happens weather I'm running Jr on any setting or running stock. Just seems to be happening more often. Really since my last tranny full service.
I like many are tight on cash so I'm not wanting to throw a bunch of funds on bad fixes or unnecessary tries. I know a new Geoend(or other) tranny would be the ultimate fix but is it the right one to give me some releaf or just the possible right fix. I have never had tranny temp issues that I know of. Last fluid test looked real good for 25k on it. Truck just roller 50k. Again thanks and sorry for long post. Mike in AZ just scratching my head

Well in my opinion.....

I'm not a tranny expert. But I have felt my tranny change over the miles. And I am worried like you, because I am not exactly wiping my behind with $100 bills...

So here's some advice that is golden:

Call Suncoast Trans and ask to speak with a mechanic. I did and not only did he NOT try to sell me something, he asked what I was looking for, what symptoms I had, what box I had (I said how do you know I have a box??? He said EVERYONE has a box ) and then he offered suggestions for me to implement, starting small and seeing how it goes.

I've had a friend call Goerend, and maybe it was my friend's fault, but he didn't get the information he wanted, said they seemed in a hurry, and just wanted his transmission and they would build it and send it back, send lots of money along with it..... He ended up buying parts and having a local guy build his.

Suncoast really spent a lot of time with me on the phone, and I got a great feeling that they wanted me to be happy, and that may not come from selling me parts. The mechanic told me to clean out the solenoid first, they get full of lint and sometimes metal flakes, put in a Transgo shift kit to increase line pressures and improve overall performance and feel of the trans, and if I ever take out the tranny, a new torque converter will make a big difference.

I asked about other parts and he said I should wait. I offered to put it the shift band pawl or whatever and he said they can bend under some circumstances, but it isn't all that common and I can always replace it later.

So my golden advice is call a transmission mechanic you trust, and discuss where you are and where you want to be. These guys do hundreds of transmissions a year and see it all. I had good luck with Suncoast, but I would think any of the guys that do 48RE's will know what they are talking about, just hope you find one with time to talk, a passion for performance on a budget, and not into making a sale.

I should have asked for the Suncoast guy's name....

Thanks guys, I'll have to find local someone to chat with. Funny how when you ask for honest thoughts no one post but every one looks funny that. Oh band adjust was a waist of my time and funds. like I said before non issue towing getting after it.

At 50k, isn't your truck still under warrenty? If so take it in, and at least have it documented. But it sounds more like the "shuttle/shift" others talk about. It's where the truck cant decide if it wants to stay in 1st or jump to 2nd, and then decides to just use 3rd and let the convertor do the work... If that's the case do a search on shuttle shift and you will find lots of helpful info.

Put your truck in 2nd and take it to 28mph and let the convertor lock up, then step / roll into the pedal enough to put strain on the convertor but not make it kick down into 1st and make sure your 2nd gear clutches aren't going south...
