BANKS EXHAUST BRAKE
What do you guys think about a banks exhaust brake, I have a buddy that has one for a '99 that he has for sale (sold the truck already) for $600 ???. is this a good deal or should I look at different brands? Any recomendations? Thanks.

If it's one of the newer models, that' seems like a good price if the condition is good. A friend of mine just got the Banks Brake and it's pretty nice. Lots of features that my PacBrake doesn't have.

Haven't looked at the Banks in a while but the reason I got my Pacbrake instead of the Banks or BD was for two reasons. 1 was the huge difference in price and 2 was that fact that Banks and BD didnt hook into the ECM. They used a micro switch on the throtle. The ECM is preprogramed for the exhaust brake. But that does sound like about half the price of new.

IMHO, the advantage to the banks brake is their casting is bigger and uses an actual 4" downpipe. That way the cross-sectional area taken up by the butterfly doesn't make for additional restriction. They sell this same casting "empty" (without butterfly & shaft) as the Power Elbow. Nice piece.
As for price, just give them a call to see what one is going for.

if you but it make sure you get the down pipe.
Thiers will not work with any other down pipe.
That price is ok if it's not worn out.
I have one and the prob is if you want to bomb further it holds you back because of bolting to the exhaust housing.
As far as braking power I have the Banks and a friend has a Jacobs.
Other than that the trucks are the same.
Both brakes have about the same braking power. The banks was supposed to be stronger but it's not as it was advertised.
It works good don't get me wrong.
It's just not worth a bunch more bucks because the braking is the same.

Well, it holds you back (pun~ take it or leave it) in the sense that you are limited to the HX35 exhaust housing. Not a problem if you stay with the hybrid level of turbo mods. The Banks casting also angles in the wastegate flow which reduces turbulence and restriction when the wastegate is open. If you decide later to go with twins, it won't work when you rotate the exhaust housing. But, heck, at that point you'd be loosing any other turbo-mounted e-brake anyway to make room for the new hot pipe. Also not compatible with a HX40 or B1. ;D

Deciding between the Banks v.s. the Jacob's exhaust brake system has been confusing. The Dodge dealer is telling me that future issues/problems with warrenty work could come up unless I install the Jacob's Brake system. Has anyone who installed a Banks system had problems with warrenty work? How did it get resolved? Thanks in advance.
