ball joints ........ sigh
seems if there is ever any tsb's that cost money, my truck fits em.
noticing a little inside tread wear on my front tires so i jacked it up to check ball joints. it needs some. found a tsb on 95's that say i also need to replace the lower control arm if tack welded. mine are, is this really needed?

I wouldn't think so. You should just be able to remove the tacks with an angle grinder. The shop that changed mine told me that one of the seats were a bit damaged from the last job so when he pressed them in he just put three or four tacks with the welder and no problems with them yet.

I put ball joints in mine last week. The lowers were tacked and I just ran a muffler cut off tool into the weld and moved on with life.
Be warned. The Matco ball joint press I used does not have quite enough throat depth, so you have to reposition the press from on side to another.
Otherwise, it's just a job to wrestle the spindle around and keep it out of the way.
I bought AC/DELCO units that are good quality. I spent about $80 per joint and recommend you buy a good part yourself. There are cheaper parts, but I just don't know if I could afford them in the long run
