Ball joint Opinions
I have searched, researched, and I can't decide about which balljoint to use. I hear alot of BAD about Moogs, so that makes me steer away. I just cant decide what to buy for my 02 4X4 2500 Ram

When I did mine, I first got Spicer from Napa, because I Always heard good things about them. I payed just over 100.00USD a piece for them, and 2 of them where BAD right out of the box, the ball/stud would move in and out about 3/4 inch. Napa said that was Normal and would not warranty them out as a defect.
After a battle with Napa, I ended up getting a upper and lower Moog for the passenger side of my truck from O'reilly. The moog seemed to press in alot nicer.
To this day my driverside is Spicer and the passenger side is Moog. I guess time will tell..

If you want to keep the truck it might be worth it to buy these here
As you know its usually only the tops go bad. I have seen mention that with < 2* caster stockers can live long but then you have death wobble better to set it to 4.5* or so and let it eat ball joints
EDIT: Im running Moog from car quest but not sure if they are even still good cause I have steering box slop and bad control arm bushing wear...

The play is completely normal, and incorporated into the function of the ball joint. All will have this play on a given type of vehicle, including MOOG, only the MOOG ones are spring loaded so it can't be felt. Many people simply don't understand the function of a ball joint and believe "tighter is better", but this is not the case. I have seen many replacements done with MOOG joints, then the truck won't even stay on the road after the replacement because they are too tight to allow the truck to steer properly, and the wheels won't even return to center after a turn.
I refuse to use the adjustable upper joints from MOOG, as there is no "default" position, and the purpose of these joints is to solve (or hide) a problem only. On 2000 and newer trucks, I have been using OEM replacement joints and have had good success with them. No they are not greasable, but I cannot say if greasability is really a benefit or not. The greasable joints typically don't seal as well to keep moisture out, same as u-joints.
