Baldwin vs. Fleetguard fuel filter.......

for the stock housing, anyone care to share their thoughts or opinions on the two?

Baldwin is the only option as the common rail engines need the highest amount of filtration you can get. The Fleetguard filter is only offered in 7 micron absolute, which is no where near enough. The Baldwin is offered in 5 micron absolute, which isn't the best, but it's a lot better then the Fleetguard and the best that will fit in the stock housing. The best option is to use the Baldwin in the stock housing, and then mount a 2 micron absolute filter in between the stock housing and the CP3.

That's exactly where I was going with this, let's use this to also discuss 2 micron setups after a Baldwin, any good kits out there?

Either baldwin or FG will get the job done but you really should look into a 2 micron set up. A baldwin FB1311 fuel filter base has a 1-14 thread which fits a lot of different filters. I am running a Donaldson 2 micron with a 20 micron FG water sep. before it and then to the factory filter.

Would the stock intank LP be enough to push past a 2 micron unit after the factory unit with a Baldwin in it?

I run the Baldwin in the Stock housing and the CAT 2 micron mounted on the GDP big line kit set up. I have only a stock LP and see 11 Psi At Idle and have never dropped it below 8Psi pulling a large trailer up hill.

10-4, good info fellas. I wonder why Donaldson doesn't make a OEM filter replacement for us, that would be kinda cool. Is the GDP kit pretty much the best one going right now? Any thoughts on the 2 mic Cat vs. Donaldson?

Your GDP kit will come with a Fleetguard FF5320 fuel filter. I don't know the exact numbers but it is a 2 micron filter but is only absolute to 4 microns or something. The CAT is 2 microns absolute and you don't need the rubber washer over the post like you do with the FF5320.

Donaldson makes the P550800 and it is 7 micron and meets factory specs.

I see, I didn't know that, so Baldwin beats em all. Dumb question here, I was out looking at where I want to mount my 2 mic setup and was wondering what is and where the hardline runs around the back of the head (not #6 line, the one below it)

Bosch specs 5um for the CP3 and injectors. The Baldwin PF7977 is the only filter that fits the OE filter bowl that meets this.

Look at the link in my sig for my setup, its 3 filters on the stock LP with plenty of pressure.

I would think somebody'd come out with a 2-micron stock drop in. Maybe with a small area filter like that,it would clog too easily?
