Bad turbo
Gys-how do you konw if a turbo is bad or not working? I have a '93 W250 CTD . I only the tube coming off the downpipe for an exhaust right now so I can hearthe turbo whining but it doesn't feel like its working. When I get to a hill and put my foot in it I don't feel any differnece than just cruisingn along. I think it may be shot and if so how much arethey? How long are you supposed tolet them cool dowwn before shutting down?

Try taking the tube from the air filter to the turbo off, then checking the side play and end play. You shouldnt be able to make the wheel hit the housing moving it in any direction, and you shouldnt have any forward-back play. You could also put a boost gauge on the truck (either permanent or temporary); any pressure gauge should work. You can find cheap air pressure gauges from www.surpluscenter.com and some line and fittings to find out what your boost pressure is for not much money.
