Bad TPS sensor?... HELP
I have an 01 2500, 24 valve, 5 speed. I have straight pipes and a BHAF. I have never had any problems with the truck except for this minor one. When I make long trips (i go to school 410 miles from home and I occasionally visit) the truck starts to do funny things. When I get off the interstate, the truck idles high, between 1000 and 1200 RPMs. Then a few minutes later the truck will lose all power and drop down to idle no matter what im doing with the throttle. It still sounds and runs fine but it wont do anything but idle. I believe the term is called dead peddle. I have to turn the truck off and let it sit for a few minutes, then turn it back on and floor the peddle a few times before it will come back. What is my problem? and how is it fixed.

I did this once but I have sence forgoten the code. When I did however, I found out at an auto repair shop that it was a TPS. However, i got a bad feeling about the mechanic and when I tried to look at his computer to varify his findings, he quickly exited the displayed window. I feel that he was trying to screw me. And since it is tempermental, it only displays ther code and an engine warning light when the problem is occuring. I will look and maybe I can find where i wrote down the code last time it hapened.

1682 = charging system voltage too low - not likely related to your drivability problem but check it out.
1693 = companion DTC code - a less than helpful code that can be summed up by basically saying you need to get your truck to a scanner because there is a stored code that you were not able to retrieve. Which, is quite possibly going to help with diagnosing the problem.

Oh ok. Well that makes sense casue sometimes when its really cold outside the amp meter will read fairly low just after starting and will take a few minutes to get up to 15 amps. It began doing that after a particullary rowdy camping trip wich involed a water crossing
. I probably have a dicy alternater. I have 145000 miles on her so I gues its time to be experiancing little problems like that. I will see what I can do about gettting it to a shop and having a diognostic test ran. I greatly apreciate the help and I will post the results of the test. I will also remember to write the trouble code down for the throttle problem wich will probably be when I make the drive home next time since it does it on long trips.

The 216 is the death code for the VP. Sorry to say your upgraded pump is going bad. What's your FP?

Dang. Thats really not what I wanted to hear. I have the VP44 I think. Im not really sure. It was done just before I bought the truck 11 months ago. When a mechanic looked at it once he said that I had a new lift pump and injector pump. Surely the pump would not go out in less than a year? (I hope not) Would a bad pump be causing problems like this. 99% of the time the truck runs perfect its just those few times when it drops back to idle that I have to problem. I thought that if your FP fails it just all the sudden quits on you and doesnt come back. Is that right?

Ok.. I'm NO Dodge GURU.....
but doesn't the initial complaint SOUND like the Throttle Position Sensor?? maybe needing an APPS reset??
Also, if you are having battery or alternator problems wouldn't that cause all kinds of down stream codes to be thrown?
Just a thought
