Bad Shudder & Shake under load
I have a 2000 3500, when pulling and underload @ around 50-65 MPH and in the 1600-1800 RPM range. The truck will just shake and shudder. I have had the lift pump replaced 6 months ago, and is still OK. (so says the dealer) I just had the Torque Converter and valve body upgraded. Thinking it was a slipping clutch. After reading through a bunch of posting here, I started to think maybe the Injection Pump. I took it to the dealer, and they said nothings wrong with the pump. Can they test it in the Truck? Does anyone have any ideas or experenced the same problem? Oh yeh when I have the E-Z module on, it is worse.

I would say that there is a problem with your upgrade. There is a good post on the DTT forum about shudder. Here is a piece of it:

"There are several things that can cause TC shudder, injectors, pump timing, and even transmission oil. I would say that about 80 % of the TC shudder I have personally diagnosed have been ATF oil related. I have also seen injectors cause shudder and in the 24 valve cases the fueling boxes & timing combinations have even caused shudder.
When a TC shudders it is a simple case of the damper springs within the TC opening and closing. As they are opening and closing there is not enough hp to keep the springs collapsed and too much power to keep the springs (open) for lack of a better term. If your engine is not running smoothly it can also cause a TC shudder. For assistance with these issues as it applies to your application please feel free to call and discuss in more detail."

Re:Bad Shudder & Shake under load
Marine,
Do you think the tranny fluid or still tranny related?
I had a new Banks Torque Converter and Shift Kit installed with synthetic fluid, but still didn't fix the problem. It is a little better but still shakes and makes a rumble sound. I also noticed, it dosen't smoke when you push it and I have loss of power and poor fuel economy.
Thanks

Did you have anything done internally to the transmission? This might cause problems. Are you joking about shaking and rumbling sound? Because all diesels do that. As for the Fuel economy- have you had the lift pump tested for pressure? Winter fuel can also be a cause of poor fuel economy.

Re:Bad Shudder & Shake under load
No, as far as I know, nothing was done to the inside of the tranny. ( seals etc. )
It only does the shudder-shake-noise thing when in lockup, under load and between 1600-1800 RPM. If you easy off or drop out of overdrive to bring the RPM to 2000 or above the problem goes away. A friend of mine thinks it is starving for fuel. I just had the TC changed last week, and disapointed it didn't fix my problem.

Mine does the same thing wit the shudder. I don't switch into OD until I am at 2000 in 3rd. You might be lugging the engine with the tighter TC. I stay in 3rd until 55 mph.

Yeh, but this is not normal, never did this from new. Also dosen't explaine the loss of power. It will even do it in 3rd. You have to get though the 1600-1800 range still. I am just getting fed up with the whole thing.

Any codes thrown? In other threads they have been saying that some of the codes can tell you if its your VP44 or not.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Re:Bad Shudder & Shake under load
This is a bit of a long shot and does not explain any loss of power, but have you checked your engine mounts?

Re:Bad Shudder & Shake under load
I checked last night, and had no codes. For the engine mounts...do you think it would make the truck lunge back and forth? If you have ever driven a car running out of gas...thats what it feels like, but only around that RPM ( the high torque range )
After reading so post last night, just wondering if some sensor has gone.
...At this rate I will be bald by the time I hit 35...and broke...
Thanks guys
