bad news

Truck knocks bad. Rail pressure has been goofy for a few days. Last night on my way home from work around midnight it started knocking. I drove it home and parked it.

Cranked it today....all sounded good. Hit the High Idle and it started knocking/humming/rumbling. You can feel the knock on the valve cover and oil pan.

No diesel in the oil. Nothing leaking. Oil pressure is normal (according to a factory gauge). Rail pressure is still un-steady but is up around normal #'s. EGT's are at 225* idling which is normal since twins.

This is bad. Very bad. No codes. Bullydog is back on stock now, all boxes have been pulled.

HELP

Last time I heard a truck just start randomly knocking he dropped the #2 exhaust valve seat and trashed the head and piston and I think that cylinder as well.

I wouldn't get a 6.7

After talking to a guy last night that bought one, then with all of the problems and PATHETIC fuel mileage the dealer ended up getting him out of a 6.7 cab/chassis into a mega 5.9.

Hopefully you get it worked out Phil!

What was the fuel mileage?

I've talked to 3 guys locally and the best they had ever got was 14.1

Sure sounds mechanical, Phil - wonder if the squirrelly RP readings were indicative of misbehavior of one or more of the sticks.

The CTD is very durable and reliable, but still a mechanical device with finite limits - can't change the laws of physics (though they can be fooled from time to time! )

To quote: (thanks Don!) "perhaps you've overdrawn your CTD account?"
