Bad mileage HELP.

good day gents. I have a 96 12 valve that I bought from a friend when my 96 12 valve was wrecked. This new truck is as bad as my other was good. however I am not in a position to get a different one so I must deal with it and fix it. First of all my starter puked and melted the shut off solenoid. I re built the starter and replaced the solenoid. And then the 70 amp relay went and with that the relay to the wait to start heater. I replaced both units last month and the shut off relay died today. not really happy about that. I will get the fuel relay from foster trucks does anyone have any idea where to get the wait to start heater relay seprately, and not from the dealer?

So the mileage on this truck has never been too great. the best is 17 which is a far cry from my old one. But last week it dropped to like 8mpg. I changed the fuel filter today and now the water in fuel light is on. I would like to get this truck into the 20mpg range whare it should be.

Anyhow I replaced the fuel filter and the water in fuel light is on. Any suggestions. Mileage and lightwise.

it has 3.5 gears and a banks twin ram kit but still gets crappy mileage now worse than ever. even if I stay off the pedal. I do need to do the valves. could that affect the mileage?

HELP!?

Pete

hmmm, sounds to me like you may have gotton a bad batch of fuel, drain the filter into a glass jar and see if theres water in it.

as for the milage I can't say for sure cus 17 is about best I've ever gotten. But here's a few things to start with.... Run the valves, do a once over on the fuel system (overflow valve, rubber lines, prefilter, fuel heater, ect...) then check fuel preasure and give it a good dose of injector cleaner. After all that if it doesn't pick up some mpg, maybe have the timing checked.

Hope this helps

I lost my mpgs when my lift pump went out. If I keep my foot out of it I can get 20mpg w/ mine on the highway and its set up similar to yours, but when my pump went bad I lost almost all the power and went down to 10-11 mpg for a couple hundred miles before I got to replacing the pump. I am not sure if thats it or not but you could check it out. Good luck
