Has anyone installed one of these hitches (self installation) on a 2006 3500 Mega Cab? If so, is it difficult? Do the brake lines or anything else get in the way of installation? Thanks in advance for any information/advice.

Should be the same install as my '05 - straightforward, though time-consuming. Great product with detailed instructions - hardest part is drilling the hole in the right place.

Put one in my truck last night, it isn't a big deal just make sure you drill the hole in the right place like XLR8R said. Take your time.

I just put one in my 07 last week and it took me about 3.5 hours. Like everyone else said be careful careful cutting the hole. Measure three times cut once. I used a 4" hole saw and it was perfect. The instructions were detailed and seemed to cover everything.

Hey fellas has anyone put one in after they had a bed liner spryed in? I have a Permatech bedliner and want to install the B&W turn over ball this summer, will the liner have any effect on install?

I wouldn't think the liner would have any effect on the installation. Maybe after you do the install you could take the truck back to where you had the liner installed and see if they can spray (seal) the small gap between the bed and hitch. Just to seal up the little bit of exposed metal from cutting through the bed.

The only time a liner effects it is when you have a drop in liner and then you have to get a taller ball.

I put one in my '06 Megacab in my driveway. Its really and easy install. The only thing that gave me a little trouble was the u-bolt on the drivers side. You need to maneuver around the brake line and a wiring harness and work around the gas tank. Just takes a little finesse and patience. The rest is cake.

Rob C- Does the ball that comes with the hitch not tall enough to use with the plastic bedliner? I'm going to be towing a gooseneck this weekend (first time with this hitch) and don't want any surprises when I go to hook up.

I know when I installed my 5th wheel plate I took the spare tire out made working under there so much easier!!

Depends on how you ordered it because you can get it with the short or tall ball, some aftermarket dealers sell them with the longer ball, some don't so you have to buy the longer one later and they get more of your cash. Double check with who ever you got yours from or call B&W and ask them which one you have. I have heard of stories where the liner would prevent from latching down on the ball.

If you have access, put it on a lift so you can stand under it.

As far as installing with a spray in liner, I found the liner harder to cut with a hole saw than the steel. Having the drill up to speed before you set the hole saw into the work helps keep it from grabbing.

I'd also have some primer on hand to touch up wherever you have to cut, and I also used high strength (red) locktite.

On my long box, I couldn't get a drill around the exhaust pipe to do the holes for the passenger side safety ancor, so I made pilot holes with a dremel so I could drill the 1/2" holes from the top in the correct location...

A stool or sawhorse or whatever and a ratcheting tie down work handy to hold the center section in place from above while you bolt it up.

I would guess whether or not the stock ball would work with a drop in liner would depend upon how thick the drop in was...
