Axle weights

I don't have the exact #'s in front of me but yesterday I was crawling around the ground with a can of Rust Check when I noticed on the drivers side door the vehicle info sticker. I forget what its called but its the sticker on the Quad cab door that has the vin and the other vehicle info. My truck is a 2001.5 built 09/00 and an 8800 LB. GVW. The front axle weight rating was 5000 and change and the rear was a bit over 6000 lbs. My question is on larger trucks like 1 I drive it has a 8000 lb front and a 15,500 lb rear. That truck has a gvw of 23,500 lbs. The other I drive has a 12,000 lb. front and a 21,000 lb rear for a gvw of 33,000 lbs. So why shouldn't my truck have a gvw of 11,000 lb. or so. Not that it matters because all it carries is me but I'm just curious as to the differences.

Adding front axle & rear axle weights together is not how it's done.... at least on personal vehicles. I believe other limiting factors come in to play.... tire wt limits, springs...brakes.
