The paint is peeling on mine as well. Guess the next time I change the gear oil I will sand it and give it a good paint job. Guess the factory could use some paint lessons.

Go to your local parts store, and get the spray on bed liner in a can. 5.99, and will last forever. Plus it won't scratch.

Won't that hold heat in?

yup, mine doingit too, but have almost 240,000kms on it, just started to rust and pit.
wire wheel it, and then use por15 black paint, you will never paint again, and you can smash in to things and it won't chip or rust.

I painted my front suspension & differential w/ POR15 about 5 years ago. It all flaked off within 3-4 years. Followed the directions to the letter (etching fluid, left surface rust for "teeth" ect.). Not mad. Road salt is a brutal environment for any product to stand up to.

Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator has much better reviews than POR15.
