Autometer boost gauges

Anyone have any issues with theirs, mine bounces around wildly under quick acceleration, works fine if I just ease into the throttle? It seems like its just the gauge but I thought they would be better quality then that.

Does it sound like the turbo is angry when the needle bounces. May have a surge or flutter.

My gauge's needle will vibrate a bit when boosting over 20 psi. I attribute it to the fact that I have the boost line tied into the intake plate with a boost bolt. I believe it is sampling boost from one cylinder instead of all six, like it would if I tapped into the intake horn.

Don't know if that's your problem or not but thought I'd offer my 2 cents.

Richie, the turbo seems just fine, works great. It's the stock H1c with a Hx35w12 exh housing, no problems there that I see. Torquefan, I'm tapped into the head directly under the air horn, there was a pipe plug there and it made it easy to hook up, do you think I should drill & tap the air horn to eliminate any turbulance I might be getting? I've noticed when I flog it and it starts bouncing, if I back out of it just a little and ease back into it, it goes away or cleans up to where its not bouncing so much.

I've run 3 from autometer and never had any issues. Maybe the guage is just going bad. The current one is hooked up in the same place as yours.

I think your turbo is surging.

Okay, the gauge is new. The turbo has 68000 miles on it (original) with the 12cm housing. I have the wastegate held shut, should I maybe adjust at that so it works? Without a trailer on it's making 29/30 lbs boost and with trailer it'll hit 32/33. Thanks for the help. Scott

Hey Wanna, just thought of something, (need to fill out sig.) anyway I'm still running the factory air filter and intake system, with the boost going from stock at 16lbs tops to double that, do you think its starving for air and causing this? The pump has all the factory parts with the normal tweeking that you can do with a 3/16 timing bump. I do have a new 50lb Mack boost gauge I'll hook up and see if it changes just to rule out the gauge.

Update, just swapped out gauge with a new one for a mack, it's made by US Gauge and has an all steel housing, the bouncing went away completly. The readings are still the same but of course it doesn't match. Guess I'll contact Autometer and see what they say.
