Does anybody have some good info for removing my transmission.I purchased a gorend bros. tc/valvebody and drum seals. I am mechanically inclined I have never done a automatic trans.Everything I have read says 1hr to 8hr. Also what is the best book out there.I did do a search and couln't find what I needed.

it's pretty easy to remove the trans. All I did was got under there, took the driveshafts off, then took all the electrical and other connections off the trans and t-case, and the shift linkage. Then took the flexplate to TC bolts off (6 of them) through the inspection hole on the engine adapter passenger side about half way up facing towards the back of the truck. put the trans jack on the t-case and unbolt and slide that back and down, Then hook up the trans jack to the trans, and take out the crossmember, then unbolt the bellhousing bolts and just slide the trans back and down. It goes fast once u get going.

Box 5 gives good info. I have done probably 7 of them now, and it isnt really a big deal, just taking the time to do it. It usually takes me about 8 hours in all probably, but it isnt too bad. I just take my time. Put a drain plug in the tranny pan when you do it! It will be the best thing you could do. I hate draining the fluid without a drain plug But there isnt much to it, just take your time, and it will go smooth. The crossmember will beat out towards the back of the truck. I havent had much of a problem with crossmembers myself, but I know some do. Good luck, and you will love it when it gets back together!

Hey thanks for the info.Gorends sugested I replace the drum seals .Has anyone done this and where are they.I have watched the videos on their site but have not seen the seals. thanks wyatt

On mine I had to use two comealong running along the frame to the rear axle to pull the crossmember back into place. Very annoying!

The drum seals are in the front drum behind the clutches, one seal is on the drum and the other larger seal is on the piston. To get to the seals you have to remove the font drum and disassemble it. Remove the wavy snap ring that holds the clutches and steels in, now is a good time to examine them and replace if necessary. You are going to need something to compress the return spring retainer and remove the snap ring from the drum. There should be 9 springs under that spaced equally apart, after you remove them then you can grab the piston and remove it from the drum. This is where the seals are, make a note of there direction and put the new ones in in the same direction. Lube the seals up and wiggle the piston back into place, don't force it, you don't want to tear a seal.

Hey thanks for the info on the drum seals.So should I do a full rebuild because I was just planning on doing a tc/vb. Sounds like once you get into doing the seals you are in it along ways.thanks wyatt
