Depends where you live (not given) and your outside temps on what you will see. Rule of thumb....empty at 70 mph criuse.... temps from 140 - 180 are in the ok range. My built tranny will cruise all day at 140*, in clear air, on a 90*+ day. Pull in behind an 18 wheeler and watch the needle climb!

Stock tranny slippage from to much HP will show up as increase in rpm's with no noticable increase in speed. You should feel it if looking for it.

I recently installed a recon xzt gauge on mine and see 150 or more in town and 130 on the highway(55 mph) with an outside temp of 65F... 130F is too low?

Not at 65*F.
Within reason... impossible to be too low!

I've read about Canadians that have 150 - 400* gauges that register NO tranny temp..... all winter!

Your gauge doesn't register below 100F. Once your tranny gets warmed up it will start to register on the gauge. In town driving will produce higher temps than normal cruise on the highway because you are working the auto more. Worry about the high temps, not any low ones....

Temp is not best indicator of slip in clutches. U can feel em slipping. The life expecanty of slippping clutch is seconds under full load. If engine RPM is not arrested after shift it's slippppping. If rpm increases unaccountablly it's slippppppppping. Get the ideal!!!! The tranny fluild will get a ugly dark to black look and smell like smoke. Then it quits pulling or pulls all the time depending wheter the clutch pack welded itself together or not.

Also it is very important to read the temp in the out line to the coolers.
The next best is in the pan.
If you are reading it at the test port that some recommend, you are only reading the case temp!!!!

I've installed the probe on the test port on the passenger side of tranny, like recon instruction tells... I'll get a fitting for the cooler lines next..
why it's impossible 130F at highway speed? (with outside temp of 65F or little less)
