Auto trans will not shift out of first gear?
I posted this in emergency section also. I have an 02 4WD auto. I have had the P1693,P0500,and P0216 codes for over a year now. I usually get the dead pedal for about a mile in the mornings and in the evening leaving work. Occasionally the pedal will drop out and I just release it for a few seconds and then most of the time it will pick back up. Well today I went to the store during the middle of the day and the truck would not shift out of first gear. RPMs would go up to 3K if I tried but the speed would slowly go up. I have 4.10 gears so first gear does not get me anywhere fast. I tried to shift it manually but it made no difference. I release the throttle and pressed it again several times but no luck. I did get it to shift one time by cycling the throttle and it went to third but as soon as I stopped at a stop light, it went back to first and stayed there. Where do I start to figure this out and correct the problem?
Thanks in advance

Fluid was full and good shape. It did not appear to be slipping just would not shift out of first. The one time that it did shift out of first, the truck accelerated normal with no slipping noted.

I had that happen to me several years ago. I can't remember exactly what it was but the tranny guy pulled the valve body and there was something that came loose above it. It may have been the adjustment bolt on a band for second gear. He reinstalled it and adjusted it. It has been a while and I can't remember exactly what it was doing. It seams like it would not shift to second and you had to run first pretty high to get it to shift to third and you were fine until you slowed to a stop and had to do it all over again.
Also, I thind that the shifter would not go into park because the bolt fell right under the park lever in the tranny.

Some new info that i discovered. I checked the fluid level and it is about 1.5 inches above the full mark. I have not added any fluid to this trans in over 4 years. Anyone have any idea where the extra fluid came from?

did you check it in park or neutral.... if checked in park the level will be higher than if checked in neutral.
as for not shifting out of first more than likely the governor pressure sensor or transducer, it can be verified via a scanner to see that pressures you have, you would need to drop the tranny pan to replace it.
