Auto tranny clutches question

For those of you that have been following my dilema with my sour auto and lack of funds for a full blown race-ready perfomance auto shifter, I have found the answer. http://www.lindsaytransmission.com/ has a bank that will work with me. They have expieriance with the 47RE and BOMBED diesels. He plans on using a aftermarket valve bodie and the pro-loc TC. The only thing that I am unshure of is he plans on using stock clutch packs. He said that he has used perfomance clutches before, but the truck owners later said they wished that they had put the stock ones in.

What do you guys think about this? How much rougher will the shifting be? I do not tow much, but plan on more bombs later.

Re:Auto tranny clutches question

I don't now if this will help, but, I watched DTT upgrade my tranny. My 3rd gear band (after 33K miles) was pretty bad. They replaced it with a stock band. I asked them if they had anything better and they told me that, no, stock was the was to go. Now bear in mind that the knew my mods. Tranny is absolutely great and holding 482 rwhp. BillK and the DTT gang know what they are talking about. There are also many others out there running their tranny with way more HP than I have. Properly set up pressures, 4x4 apply lever, front servo, accumalator, etc., and everything that they do to insure against pressure leaks make the difference. I guess it's like this. Would you pay big bucks to attorney for their advice and not follow it? I followed DTT's advice and couldn't be happier with my setup.

MOSTWANTED

The stock clutches (frictions) are fine, in the clutch packs it's about fluid and the amount (leaks) of that, and the pressure that applies them. Racers is talking about the 3rd gear and that the same fluid curcuit releases 2nd gear and applies 3rd gear....in the whole transmission from coverter to tail this is the weakest point.

Re:Auto tranny clutches question

My factory tranny was good until 400 hp with just a VB and TC upgrade. Stock clutches had 50,000 miles of abuse.

Racer57,
You were referring to the front (kick down) band?

MOSTWANTED,
Dude if you want a full blown race ready transmission, I would recommend spending the cash at a full blown transmission race shop. You will be money ahead down the road.

Jim how's it going?
I like your thoughts on this subject. IMO 3rd gear isn't the weakest part of the transmission but frictions wise it does wear the most. My weakest part is what ever I can break next! lol
How much power you plan on bring'n to Muncie this year Cowboy? 8)[/quote]

Re:Auto tranny clutches question

A fellow drag racer show me how to rebuild my trans. While we were in dissamblemy he explain to me that the stock clutches were engineered better and that most of my trouble would be solved by staying with them. He was right, of course. Sure has saved me a bunch of money.
