auto or 6spd

I am looking at getting a HO Cummins in the next couple of weeks. I test drove a HO Cummins with a auto and liked it a lot. I don't really want to go back to a 6spd due to driving in trafic and the use of my cell phone. I know cell phones kill but I need it for my work. I had a F-250 PSD with an auto and had no problem. I am now leaninng towards the Cummins due to cost and I am not sure about the 6.0 PSD. However I am now getting leary as to the tranny issue. Any imput would be appreciated. Most of my driving in highway/streets without pulling a trailer. I due tow a 4-5 thousand pound boat on the weekends and occasionaly tow a dump trailer or load the bed with a pallet of block. Other than that I am usually just driving. I do want to lift the truck, put 35's on it and possible chip it. What are some of your experiences with this tranny. Please help!

Eron

I am on the phone quite a bit in my truck, I chose the six-shooter and a hands free kit (mic on the a-pillar and speaker under the cubby hole, not the thing in the ear kind). I am more than satisfied with my choice. BTW hands free kits can be had for a reasonable price on e-bay, I have purchased a half dozen of them over the years and have not been taken on ebay yet.

Good luck.

Re:auto or 6spd

I am trying to break my 48re tranny so we can find out where the weak spots are but I have been unsuccesful so far. I have had as much as 30,000lbs behind it and it takes everything I throw at it. If you are gonna go up to bigger tires get the 4.10 gears even if you dont tow much. You'll be happier with the lower gears.

Re:auto or 6spd

My business requires me to be on the phone alot in the truck, and I am prone to swill coffee while I drive too. As a matter of pure convenience, I chose the 48RE. Like Luke, I've had mine in some pretty tough situations without a single problem. I have no regrets whatsoever in choosing the Auto.

Re:auto or 6spd

Love my auto, just back from first trip. After 700miles tried to push it a little harder. 75mph up good sized grade with ease. I dont see any reason for the manual unless you will be towing very heavy or are concerned about getting the most miles out of your tranny and are willing to give up the ease of shifting with an auto

Re:auto or 6spd

Haha ha ha ha. That is not me, that is my 12 year old brother. He has all ready informed me that he is buying this truck from me when he turns 16. So I have to save it for him. He wants to put some stacks on it, but I dunno :
