Aurora 5K Install w/pics!!!
Allright fellas finally got together with cquested and we got the heart transplant done!!! Took us longer than expected so I didn't get to meet up with CarharttFarmer and paint his flares but we will tackle that next weekend!! Thanks Cody for understanding! The install was a pain mainly because I had tried to remove the stock turbo earlier in the year to drop it and tap the pyro but couldn't get the last bolt undone and it had rounded to the point to where we couldn't get a grip to knock it loose even after a trip to sears for new tools.. So we ended up taking the whole exhaust manifold off with the turbo still attached along with the front tire/fender well. From there it took about two minutes to get the darned thing off and 10 minutes of picking up the exhaust gaskets - four to each port!!! We then quickly drilled the egt guage pre-turbo in the manifold and put the gaskets on and re-installed the manifold.
Next was comparing the two.. THe exhaust port on a stock turbo is what blows my mind coompared to the Aurora. For anyone that hasn't seen a stock turbo up close your in for a shock.... You can definately tell the restrictions of a stocker. From there we checked the turbo's and it lookes like it was goona be an exact fit and we wouldn't have to make any downpipes or adjustments on the exhaust. We did have to cut the afe stage II torque tube and adapt it to a rubber fitting CQ had of his original set up but that took 5 minutes..
We then heaved the massive beast up into the truck and down into it's new living quarters. We had to do a bit of heaving and prying to get it up into onto the studs but a small pry bar and a little umph put her in it's place!! We quickly bolted it up and started attaching everything else. If your goona do a turbo transplant I recommend you going to dodge and buying new exhaust clamps We almost learned the hard way!! We put the intake clamp on the exhaust and were screaming trying to get it to go and when we finally did on the last tightening turn it snapped in half!!! So we called Nate and he had one at his house and in the process of buttoning everything else up we realized that we used the wrong one so we lucked out it broke just close enough that we could still use it!! ANd once we put the right exhaust clamp on it was a cake walk!! Either way I would get one because the stock one broke when we were taking it off!! From there it was just a matter of putting fender flares and wheel wheel back on buttoning up loose ends and temporary plugging in the electric wastegate controller.
Initial test run!! At driving around town speeds it felt a touch better than the stocker but not much difference. Turbo whine is really cool!! Once you hit 12 PSI you had better be holdin on!! When that sucker lites it's all out.. It really cleans up fast but blows a mountain of smoke!!! Of course with the help of the smarty and mp-8.. First initial run I didn't watch the boost guage so we turned around and it hit 45 + in nothing flat. So I gotta be careful and not blow the headgasket!! From there is was awesome the turbo is unreal. The real test will be when I hook up to the work trailer but I don't think that will be a problem!!
My observations were as follows. Stock turbo ran 18 psi boost and 83 mph at 2100 rpm's with smarty on #9 and mp-8 40%! With the aurora psi never reached 10 psi at 83 mph at 2100 rpm and same settings!! The lag zone is 0-12 psi so it's not bad at all but from there one it's all out or nutin!!
I would like to thank CQuestad for all his help and knowledge!! I know he is dien to get his Twins installed now!! Any one wanting a first class set-up on twins I would get ahold of Nathan. I couldn't believe the quality and precision of his parts!!! First class all the way..

I guess im new to the world of BOMBING... What modifications have to be done to the intake system since the intake housing is different than stock? is there enough from the stock system to route it, or do you have to get another piece to connect it all up??

Yeah that dabbed wind had a bite to it.. I ment to ask you if you had a place indoors to paint? I had a killer headache when we were getting close to being done but it was because I didn't have any caffiene in me and I have been trying to go cold turkey on the pop but if I don't have one I get migrain type headaches...

You still have the stock tranny for now?
Also, how are the EGTs, any lower while cruising at speed?
