august 2003 Four Wheeler Mag. Article
the August issue of FOUR WHEELER MAGAZINE has the Ford Chevy and Dodge deisel comaparison. The article was rather vague as usual but they finished in that order; Ford, Chevy and Dodge. They said mostly because of the lack of a downshift feature in the tranny which the other 2 have.<br><br>they also say the reason the Ford tows better is because its redline is almost 1000 rpm's higher than the Dodge and Chevy. What happens to these motors if u rev them to 4K?

Accellerated wear and component failure.<br>2. reduced engine life.<br>3. SIGNIFICANLY reduced MPG in towing situations, compared to the cummins.<br><br>Just to name several...<br><br>NO thanks - *I* will take the torque, engine life and reliability of the more economical Cummins over the high-reving V8 diesels ANY day!

Not really anything new from the GM side of things.<br>GM has generally produced high revving diesels. From the early 5.7's through the 6.2's and 6.5's.... their diesels ran more like gas engines than diesels.<br>I dont have much experience with the Ford line of diesels but I understand them to have generally been a higher revving diesel line as well.<br><br>There is nothing wrong with this. There are a lot of folks that convert from gas power to diesel and (no fault of anyone) expect the diesel to run just like the gas engine.<br><br>I would have to guess that both GM and Ford thought about this when they built their diesels.<br><br>I suppose it may also have to do with the horsepower battle between the three manufactures as well.<br>Ford and GM went for high-rev horsepower while Dodge/Cummins likes the low rev torque.<br><br>Just a thought.<br>Rich.<br>

In magazine articles, the company that puts the most money up in advertisements etc. Gets the thumbs up. Sad, but thats how it is.

Actually, a buddy of mine drove a 6.0L and when he stomped it from a dead stop in OD, it shifted out at 3200-3300. He said the only way he could get it to shift out at 4000 is if you manually held it in each gear.

You can buy a 4k rev kit for the 12v and make them rev to 4000rpm. But Like MOSTWANTED said any Diesel Motor revin' to 4K wont last as long as a Diesel revin' to 3300rpm. But it does sound sick when a 12v revs to 4K. ;D <br><br>SD03

My 300D cruises at about 3100 at 70mph and these things last forever. Bottom line is that it has to be designed for it. The VT365 (of which the 6.0 is a derivative) has a much lower redline than the 6.0, if I'm not mistaken.

In the mag article they said the cummins was the HO but how did they get a HO in Ca to do the test?? It would be funny if the cummins was only the SO engine at 235 hp for Ca.<br> And I wish the mag would say that the cummins is a medium duty engine and the others are light duty.
