ATTN: all audiophiles!!!

Hey guys I am looking at getting new speakers in my truck. Right now I have mb quartz in the doors and 2 jl audio 10 W0s with an apline deck and a 5 channel jl audio amp. I am not looking to change out the amp, but i am wondering who makes some of the best speakers and woofers. I want crisp sound from my mids and highs but would like to have a nice bass to it as well. I was recently turned onto mephis audio and was wondering what you guys thought about them. I see they have some subs that only require 3" of mounting depth but are supposed to just pound. Also I have 6.5" in the front doors but have been thinking about going back to the traditional 6X9s. What do you guys think about this change? TIA

Levi

I've heard that round speakers are much better accoustically than 6x9 or any oblong speakers.

Got Memphis Audio for door speakers, tweeters, and both amps, a 1100 watt Class D and a 4ch. My friend owns the shop and has used Memphis Audio in his show truck ( He has 4 Memphis MOJO 15" subs that are pushing out 40,000 watts combined), so I believe him and have seen first hand how good Memphis is. My system has been in place for 2 yrs now and I haven't had to touch anything. I listen to a variety of music and have a few Bass Mekanic test CDs that i use to "exercise" the system. I would highly recommend Memphis.

Others I would think of would be CrossFire and Focal. I used Crossfire for competition in my 03 Mustang when i had it. Held up good.

Well that depends on which subs you are looking to get. Memphis offers the M-Class subs that will be close to what you have now, but the M-class is known for smooth superiority, I have M-class Components. Or you can step up to the MOJO, but its a big sub, depth may be an issue. Take a look at their website and look at JLs site, you can compare and maybe find what you like. I think you'd be happy going the Memphis route, they're kinda one of the unknowns to ppl who shop only namebrand, but very top notch products and good warranties.

For subs check out Crossfire or Treo. Hard to find but extremely proven in speaker comps. By far best bang for the buck if you get the higher end ones. To me, JL are overpriced and over-rated. The W6 & 7's sound decent but not worth the huge amount of money they want for them. For mids you need to do components for the best quality. Sooooo many brands out so you'll have to listen to some & pick out what you like. Why not sticking w/MB Quartz? I have like their sound & quality for years. This is all just my personal opinion!

That plastic box is gonna be your limiting factor on deep base with 10's. You can certainly get stronger 10's and a better amp to go in there that will hurt your chest when they hit if the box can handle it. But my opinion is that your limited by the ThunderFOAM box with just a 10" sub. That's just my worthless .02

I know i am new here to this forum and might not have much credit but i can tell you that what you are looking for is NOT in memphis ANYTHING. Memphis makes decent subs (for SQ or SPL and i dont know which your looking for here) jl is good if your one of those people who thinks if they spend top dollar on Monster cables your gonna be getting the absolute best picture/sound possible because you paid top dollar.

First off, whats your budget? Your amp is good so that will save you money there but i would find a dedicated mono amp for the sub. Or if you really wanted to save money you could sell your jl get a good 4 channel that i know personally to be great and power your front comps (highly recommend components if your wanting a good system) and tie the back channels to supply 600RMS to your sub. But theres many ways of doing each thing.

Second, Components: The list of comps i usually tell people to try and audition are these CDT, Dynaudio, Focal, Scanspeak, Rainbow, and the Alpine Type X system o and Phoenix Gold. The first five are ones that have one COUNTLESS SQ comps and each have there own different traits (bright, smooth, punchy midbass, deep midbass etc) The type X and the PG are bang for your buck type comps but are still very good. All of these except for the PG are much better than jl if you consider the fact that they dont have cheap chinese parts and for some reason jl's comps are becoming overly bright and also that they are MUCH MUCH cheaper. I do not own a buisness selling these products or anything all this is coming from 6 years of expierence and installing.

Third, your woofer is probably fine. A W0 is a decent entry level woofer so you would have to explain exactly why you want to replace it. Not enough bass whatever.

I'll throw in my 2cents on Focal. I listen to angry white boy music, and the Focal's have nice smooth highs. I can't stand overly bright speakers. I've had a set of 4 in my Z for 5 years and they're still beautiful. They're not overly power hungry either. I'm running a JL 4/300 to power them.

I have read in a lot of places that Phoenix Gold went to crap when some company bought them out in the last couple years. Im trying to find a budget amp to power a single Rockford Fosgate 12 4ohm

If you really want crisp high quality sound, look into diamond audio, eclipse also. Im running round diamond audio on front doors and some eclipse mini subs. On one eclipse amp and for thump I have three 12" mtx 7500 on two RF T100001 power amps. I just upgraded my stereo also to the eclipse mkII CD7200 with the 8volt pre outs. I had a guy do the work down in Austin. He wanted to go all out because he said I had alot of room for everything, I just couldn't pay for it all. One things for sure it's clean and crisp sound as well as the clear thump from the subs

Money being no object, McIntosh, hands down, hearing is believing.

Now I am a huge fan of JL Audio, but will agree, very pricey, however with a little looking you can find reputable companies online that sell for dirt cheap.

Never did deal with Memphis and allways heard of them as a good but middle of the pack brand.

Focal is friggin great... MB Quartz aint shabby either.

If your looking for something that is priced decent and performs extraordinarily, take a look at Audiobahn, however, longevity leaves something to be desired. Ive seen more Audiobahn subs blow than any other, but man did they go out banging like some champs.
