ATS tranny without tripple lock
anyone ever buy one like this? I don't know if I can afford both at the same time. Also, does anyone know if they have any kind of a finance program?

Man that would be a tough one, The trany is great but without the TC I don't think you would notice much. Seems like the TC is as much of the problem as the week trany. I just seems like a shame to have the thing all apart and stuff it back in without a ne TC. Can you wait till you can do both?

Re:ATS tranny without tripple lock
when I had my '99, I went for the whole Stage IV tranny vs. the TC or VB alone. I didn't regret it.
I think the TC and VB are probably the first things you'd want to take care of. I'm not a tranny expert, but 90% of the guys I know that are running them replaced those two items before anything else.

I don't think ATS sells the trans without one. I have a complete ATS trans and it included the TC & VB. Its a big bullet to bite, but you won't regret it. Its been a great trans. Figure around 4000-4500 installed, depending on where you live.

Well, AFAIK, and I don't know much it would be pretty pointless to do an ATS tranny without their TC- They add lockup capacity to use it, and I think a tranny should be considered as a whole system. I know it's much money, but removing, taking apart, changing one part, reassembling and reinstalling ten times just don't seem right for me.(And doesn't sound cheap either)

what if I did a converter, then the tranny? I really don't have the money for both.

Is there an echo in here? ;D

I don't think I would want to do the converter first then the new trany. You will be sending all the "JUNK" thru the torque converter as the trany continues to desinergrate. That wouldn't be good, and there isn't a real sure way to clean it out. Just charge the thing, and pay it off slowly. You want have to spend the 600-700 for labor twice, so maybe it will help off-set the incured interrest.

Re:ATS tranny without tripple lock
As y-knot said.
You will end up paying labour twice. That would be $700 dollars you could have used on different upgrades, or put back in your pocket. Even if it costs you $300 to take a small loan out to pay off the trans, it would still be chaeper to do it all at once than do it twice.

Re:ATS tranny without tripple lock
I am going to see if it would be cheaper to buy the upgrade parts (vb, clutches, tc, ect) from a reputable Co., then pay some one local here to do the rebuild. I am sure I can handle the removal/ installation of the tranny itself, as it shouldn't be much diffrent from a early TH350. I need to find the most ecinomical way of doing this. I don't have the credit for a credit card, and I don't have the $3000 laying around, so I need to do something.

I guess the general feeling is that isn't a good ideal?? Kind of like barbie without ken, cheeseburgers without cheeese, big trucks without a trailer to pull, or a diesel without smoke.
