ATS Billet Flexplate can Fail

The ATS Billet Flexplate is not unbreakable, I just tore the center out clean no other damage. I thought these were bulletproof, 10,000 miles and around 1 year of use. It was pushing 700hp and over 1500 pounds of torque. I am glad the transmission held up both billet input and output shafts. I replaced with a BD billet Flexplate SFI 29.3 from Goerend transmission. I hope this one lasts a little longer since it is able to flex, unlike the solid ATS Flexplate. I will post pictures tomorrow.

LOL, at some point in the process it becomes a badge of honor to break the unbreakable.

Still a pain in the tail, but then it wouldn't be leading edge then, would it?

Porsche, my hats off to you sir!

What were you doing when it broke? Just laying into it or trying to stage and race?

I have had one of ATS' Billet Flexplates in my 96' Dodge CTD for over four (4) years now with no problems whatsoever. I am over 800 H.P. and run my truck very hard.

I was just driving to work when it failed, the truck is my daily driver, but yes it has been raced, dynoed and run hard this past year. I doubt it has any warranty it is just over a year old. I may contact ATS to let them know that it did fail.

Our flexplates are indeed SFI certified, and we've seen very few issues. The 'flex' angle is a big selling point for some, but not really valid when using a billet torque converter, because the case is rigid. To my knowledge, this flex plate has been on the market longer than any others, and as John P. has already attested they've been proven time & again.

Porscheman87, we'd really like the chance to get that back here to inspect. We'll absolutely stand behind it as long as it was installed properly, and although I can't offer a cash refund we would replace it at no charge and ask you to cover only the shipping.

Maybe I can help shed some light on this before we even worry about shipping it in; when it was originally installed, was the factory ring reused?

I have been with ATS for 4+ years, and I have had nothing but perfect service from them, and from their parts.

Eric and the crew there have taken care of me when I was having some problems, probably when other tranny shops would have given up.

They've earned my business.

I agree with you 100% Mark! Like you, I have been a customer with ATS for over TEN (10) YEARS now! My Son, John Jr. (banshee) and myself were two of ATS' early customers and installed their initial "ATS TripleLok" in our trucks. In fact, that original TripleLok is still being used by me, but it is now in my 2006 Dodge CTD CR, although ATS did change the stall speeds somewhat from my 1996!

Eric,.....my thanks to you for coming in to help one of our DTR Members!
