APPS questions...code/cost
Does a bad APPS generate an OBD code? Also, anyone knows the cost of the APPS? My '06 Cummins started to act up today and it seems like a bad APPS from what I've read. When you shift into drive or reverse, it kind of wants to go fast and once you let go on the brake it slows down a bit. If I shift to neutral, it revs high and immediately normalizes. Tried retrieving codes but none showed up. Any input???
P.D. Just yesterday I disconnected the batteries for about 2 hours while I changed the fan clutch...after install the truck seemed to be running fine until today after coming from a 40 mile trip.

Well those symptoms are sort of generic and not necessarily associated with a bad APPS. A bad APPS will generally throw codes P2121, P2122 or rarely P2123. The 2006 APPS is located on the accelerator pedal assembly and the cost in normally $400+ depending on source.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just started the engine and pressed the brake; shifted into drive, pressed the accelerator and revs would not climb. Released the brake and got moving, but the engine seemed to be in high idle RPM's. Shitft points felt different from what they used to. Fully depressed accelerator and response was delayed and didn't seem to get going as fast as it did days before...any more input????
BTW: no codes or check engine light

I assume this did not happen before you disconnected the batteries and did the fan clutch. I don't want to steer you wrong, I am not a mechanic. I would check all of the wiring harness and wiring to see if something is loose or shorted. There is an APPS reset procedure, but on the 3rd gens I don't know how necessary it is or if it will help. It is simple disconnecting the batteries for 15 minutes. Hook them back up. Turn the ignition key to on without starting for 10 to 15 seconds, then slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and let up. Turn the key off. Then start and see what happens.

Took my truck to the dealer today and they updated the software on the ECM. Same problem continued. Technician says that the problem is a locked up converter. Ordered a new converter. Will see and post results...
