Very good article. I think it's a good thing that America is starting to look towards the diesel engine. Maybe that will help drive the price of it down some. Dang emissions though. That's gonna be the hardest part of it all.

If the govt. would stop paying farmers NOT to grow anything and START paying them to grow corn and peanuts they could make biodiesel probably cheaper than the dino stuff. They say that they want us to stop being dependant on foreign oil but they won't pursue bio like they should. If I could buy bio for as much or less than what I pay for #2 I'd be all over it.

I wouldn't blame it purely on GM. None of the companies really had a diesel out that was pleasing. They were all slow, noisy, clanky, smoke belching engines. I remember when we were looking for our first diesel we were steered away from the old 12v dodges because of how noisy they were. The chevy just always appealed to us because they were the quietest of the 3 at the time.

true, but gm did have a whole lot more back then than did ford or dodge. dodge had a 3.9L mitsubishi-made inline 6 in 78 & 79 but i dont think ford even had a diesel until 84(?) with the 6.9. someone please correct me if im wrong. 1984 was a really good year, i might add

I'm not sure the prices would go down. I've been working in the UK, It seems their government put on a big push on the public to go diesel a few years ago and the price seemed to rise faster. More unfortunate for them they are paying close to 7 bucks a gallon.
