Was wondering if anyone has the stainless steel lower body panels on their truck?? If so are you pleased with them???
Have the held up pretty good??? DO they cause any damage to your finish "IF" you ever want to take them off?? I saw that they are self adhesive!!

I'm interested in these as well, I like the look

and I run a LOT of Gravel every day, so I need something to protect the paint from the flying rocks.

No matter how slow I drive I can't seem to stop those new Goodyear At's from whipping the rocks at my paint.

Plus, I'm always in a hurry and really don't like to drive slow.

Yeah, magnum's are really nice. There are 2 "styles" you can get, there is a shorter one for around $100, and there is the full one for more $. I think QMI is the only place that makes the short version. Magnum has the full size, andthey are literally mirror finish. They are really nice!!!

Why not just have Line-X sprayed in a matching or contrasting band in the same location?
It would be more scratch resisitant, and wouldn't allow moisture & dirt to accumulate behind it to promote rust to form.

If you are on the coast or in a rain belt area, think twice about the stick-on panels. Water weeps behind the adhesive and will slowly rust your body. If you live where they use salt on the highway, stay away for sure. Salt eats both the stainless steel from the edges, and causes the paint under the tape to blister and really rust.

Any reputable body shop can shoot the lower panels with color matched urethane rock guard for about the same money, and it will last many times longer.

You dont even have to be in a coastal area to have the rust....take RCW's advice and get the Linex sprayed on....my S.S. panels are coming off and Linex is going on....

I had them on a previous vehicle. I like them. They do need to be polished once in a while(Mothers works well) to keep oxidation from forming.

If you are on coast you will need to keep them polished.

I use to live in Maine and had the rocker panels fixed 3 times in 2 years. This was on a 92 Chevy.

Now I'm in Montana and I don't think anything rusts here. Back home 95 Toyotas would be rusted out completely. Here you don't see any rust on cars and trucks from the 60s and 70s. Big difference. No salt and not much rain here.

I've never had the stainless come loose, or do I worry about corrosion underneath. As long as the surface is rust free PRIOR to installation, including chips etc, you will never have to worry about rust coming from underneath the stick on stainless strips. Salt and moisture will not rust painted metal! ONLY exposed metal!!!!

Anybody who severely disagrees with me on this subject would be welcome to any of the I-CAR instuctional videos regarding corrosion protection and paint performance.

On a further note, I paid about $160.00 for the stainless rockers (8"). I don't know of ANY shop that would paint your rockers for that price, I know my normal price three years ago was about 300 dollars between the wheels and below the mouldings. Maybe the linex is different.....

I also haven't had any problems with my SS panels. I like the look of them, and prefer them over just Rhino lining, but I wouldn't mind having them over top the rhino. When I was in an accident, they had to pull them off to do the body work. They told me that one of them pulled the paint off from underneath, but that was the extent of damage they did from pulling them off. I do need to get out and polish them again. The old ones don't look as good as the new ones that were put on.

I also have them and haven't had any complaints. They were on the truck when i purchased it and have required no maintaince to this point. the really change the apperance and seems that everyone around here really likes them.

I love it because it's easy to keep clean. not polishing. I have a big scrub brush, and that makes it even easier.

I hate polising, and shining, so easy cleaning is important to me. Its up to you, but the Line-X is nice. It also has a sound-deadning effect.

I would get some of the stainless panels in a heartbeat if someone made them that go all the way to the bottom of the truck. It seems to me that they had a good idea but left the area that needs the most protection uncovered.
