Anyone have a Jamar brake lock??

Has anybody here have, had, or know anyone that has used one of these Jamar brake locks? http://www.jamarperformance.com/product_main.htm

Under brake accessories, It is part # PK1, about half way down the page.

After putting rear disc brakes on my truck, I no longer have a parking brake. I was wondering if this would hold brake pressure long enough for me to set my wheel chocks. I'm sure if it works as advertised it would, but for $33.00 I am concerned about the quality of parts that were used in the assembly of this thing. I was hoping someone here may have had experience with it.

That unit pretty much does the same thing as a MICO-LOCK.

I see quite a few home-made mud-buggies with that very brake-lock on them.

I favor the MICO; but, that unit might be just as good; the difference being that the MICO operates by a lever, while that unit operates by a push-button.

The way either one works is you first flip the lever, or push the button, then apply the brakes.

The "check-valve" inside the mechanism will allow the pressurized brake-fluid to pass through to the brakes, but will not allow it to return to the master-cylinder, thus holding fluid pressure on the brake shoes/pads.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bearkiller. I remember talking with you about the Mico lock on another post. I found this Jamar lock while I was looking for the Mico lock on the internet. From what I can tell, the Mico lock runs almost $200.00. I have to ask myself why so much difference in price? Is the Mico lock actually made that much better, or are they just overpriced compared to the Jamar lock. My opinion is that Mico seems way overpriced based on what it actually is, but then on the other hand, it seems impossible that Jamar could build a quailty part using top grade materials, make a profit, and still sell it for $33.00. I hate to complain on both ends, but what bothers me more than paying too much, is realizing after something bad happens that I paid too little. I'm not sure which one to buy?

You must be pricing electrically controlled MICOs, or shopping at the wrong store.

It has been a few years, but it seems like the most I have paid for a standard MICO, manually operated, was about $50, give or take.

I wouldn't be afraid of the Jamar; I just prefer the cam-lever of the MICO, over the push-button on the Jamar.

In use, both will do the same thing; they just hold fluid pressure on whichever axle they are plumbed into.

MICO also manufactures a manual four-wheel lock that locks both axles.

I tried to find MICO on the net, but had no luck.

Maybe someone more computer savvy than me can bring it up.

I musy have been looking at the electric ones from Mico. I can't hardly find the Mico locks anywhere, and when I do, they websites are vague on the desriptions. I will keep looking. I do know a couple of guys that have tow trucks that get the magazines and the equipment catalogs that may have them in it like you said.
Thanks again

I did quite a bit of searching and found this:

http://www.mico.com/products/displaysubinfo.php?id=43

This is exactly the one that I am familiar with.

I have never had the low-pressure warning light; it must be something new.

I bet the light wire could be even hooked to a loud buzzer.

Hope this helps.

By the way, pay no attention to the "vehicle specific" applications.

What you want is a plain old lever-lock.

I wish I had an old box with a part number.

I will check the next time I have reason to be at the parts house.

HERE WE GO

I don't remember them being so expensive; but, maybe I payed more than I remember.

They are well worth that price; I just didn't think I gave hardly so much; but, I could be mistaken.

Also, I mount mine through the floor, instead of under the dash.

This keeps all the brake-lines under the floor, instead of in the cab, and takes much less brake line.

The area between driver seat and door is an ideal spot.

This one is even better, and, also, a little more costly.

I may just have to upgrade; it's only money and they say I can't take it with me.
