IMO the whiplash and full throttle suspensions are junk... they require a lot of hacking on the frame and not worth it. A buddy of mine was gonna get that kit but when the installer saw what it was gonna require and how the system looked, he ate the cost of the kit and got him a 6" susp. and 3" body at no extra cost.

In my experience, kits from those two companies are all about how high you can get your truck without any concern for onroad or offroad performance. Also the on road performance of any 10" lift is probably going to be terrible. Also, alot of times kits that big just eliminate the front drive shaft making your truck an instant, asphalt monster. IMHO

If you really want 10 inches, I would consider Kelderman Air Ride. I'm pretty sure they have up to 10 inches.

Kyle,

Wow man, how do you really feel??? I gues I'll chip in my two cents on the lift thing. I have the Superlift on my truck as many others on this site do (SkyJacker too). From first hand experience, there is nothing wrong at all with these lifts. They may not come with new rear springs from the factory but it is something that one could easily do if so desired.

I know the owner of Whiplash and I had the 12 inch kit on my Chevy HD. He is a friend of mine but, with all due respect, rear leaf springs doens't make the Whiplash kit the best out there. How about the fact that they use a 5 inch spacer stacked on top of a 5 inch spring? What about the steering? What about the fact that there is no true science for properly mounting the rear brackets for the new trailing arms? Allingments issues for sure, and I have seen them first hand. Shouldn't there be a cross over steering kit when you go that big?

I'd say that Full Throttle and Whiplash are a decent street kit but not much more. Maybe that's why they don't spend much time in the dirt and focus more on the trailer queens.

Just my thoughts,

Chad

If you want to go that big, go with Kelderman. Mine is not too bad. Rides a little rougher than stock, but not too much.

Exactly, I think if it's for puer looks... then go ahead and go with one of those kits. But if you plan on using it really at all off-road... then don't.

Yes, the SJ and SL kits do start out with blocks... but springs are an option for a little more which is better then blocks. And I would hope the whiplash kits would come with springs... otherwise that'd be one hell of a block and that would be even more unsafe then the front end setup.

Sorry guys I just dislike seeing good products slammed. Down the road you might see what I was talking about. The whiplash comes in a front kit and the rear setup is optional due to many guys going with a custom rear setup 4 link 5 link 3 link air bag etc.. They do offer a leaf pack that eliminates any and all blocks so the spring eliminates the factory block so the leaf is really about a fifteen inch lift spring to eliminate axle wrap. Leaf bolts directly to axle I will say this if you are looking to go big and do it right whiplash's front kit is a well thought out design with the subframe pushed back to achieve proper angle on front 4 link bars other manufactures dont do this and use stock locations which cause heim joints and polyurethane bushings to fail

How does Whiplash (or any other big-lift company) address the front driveshaft? IMO, if the front driveshaft can't turn (without binding up) with the suspension at full droop, then it's not a properly-designed lift kit.

I had a '99 truck that I put a SJ 7" kit on. I had trouble even attaching the front driveshaft once the lift was on - let alone having any hope of it turning freely when flexed. I wound up getting a custom-built front driveshaft from High Angle Driveline.

Mine was binding up with just the 6" lift, so I pulled it, and still haven't put it back on yet. I had to jack up the drivers side to get the shaft off. I figured SL would have a better product design.

It shouldn't be binding up with the double-cardan u-joint set up at the Transfer case. That's weird. I wonder if SL comprimised driveshaft angle so you wouldn't have to lengthen it. The problem comes from the shaft being so short, kinda like a rear shaft in a Wrangler. If your control arms were longer, the driveshaft would need to be longer, but wouldn't have the excessive angle. I'd get ahold of SL and throw a fit. I've had mine flexed out with the 5" Tuff lift and no problems whatsoever...

It doesn't matter which one you get. 10 inch lift? what for? To run 39-44" tires to play in the mud or drive down the road, because it won't do either very well or handle anything like it does stock. To match up to the sky high Fords?

There is a lot of sacrifice to the drivability, handling and stability going that high. Again, knowing the intended reason for going that high, might help others give an opinion on what would be best.

The trucks characteristics change dramatically going up 4, 6" or even higher. I guess as long as a person understands what they are getting into.

I know of one person with a 12 inch lift, done by a Spring shop here in Phoenix to get 39" Boggers on it. I know another person in California that his truck was used for the design of the 6 inch kit designed by Full Throttle. He likes it, but knows what it was going to do to the trucks characteristics before doing it.
If you go to their Dodge photo gallery page, it's the white one on the top of the page with the 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires.

Well I can clear 37's with nothing more than the KORE RACE Suspension, that provided about 3 inches of lift in the front, no change in the rear. And with this suspension, I can use every inch of it. There's almost 10 inches of full travel in the front alone. It eats up the terrain, whether on of off road.

But everyone has their preference. Not slamming any other suspensions out there. I've worked on plenty of trucks with just about every type of suspension out there. Everyone has their preference. But if I were going to spend $3K for something, I prefer a suspension, not a lift.
