Anyone with factory suspension?

I have an 08 2500 quad cab with a suspension that's been slightly modified but I need to find out what the factory ride height was. I was hoping someone with factory springs and 17" wheels can take a measurement for me.

I need a measurement from the center of the fender lip to the top of the rim. This is quick and easy and it takes the tire out of the equation. From the factory they probably measure somewhere around 15-17" but i assume the rear is higher than the front.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

My stock 07.5 with a half tank of fuel and an empty bed measures 15" front and 16.5" rear. Hope this helps.

Excellent thank you Sir.

Question - with stock tires did you notice any benefit after installing that steering box support?

My steering was still pretty tight when I put the stabilizer on, but it got even better. Biggest difference I've seen is in the front shock action. There is one spot on my daily drive that goes downhill into a right curve that starts uphill again, with a dip at the bottom. First time I hit it I thought my front shocks were junk. Front end bobed about four or five times, and felt really squirley. After the stabilixer, no more surprises, and I'm still running the same shocks. Pretty amazing what one more crossmember can do.

I got mine off of Ebay from Custom Diesel for $119 and free shipping. Very well built with square tube cross member as opposed to angle iron. Beautiful welds. Bearing bracket puts a shear load on the welds which is stronger that a tension load that I have seen on some. I have no connection to Custom Diesel, but I am very impressed with their product.

What is the difference with "tension load"? I thought they were all the same design?

I am ordering one as well but my understanding is that there is a difference between the 08 and 09 steering box and they they changed over in mid-year. I have an 08 built in January of 08 how do i know if mine is the 08 or 09 box?

The basic design is pretty much the same in all of them, but there are some differences in construction and materials. Some use square tubing for the crossmember, others use angle iron which is less resistant to twisting. As far as the welds are concerned, whether it is a shear or tension load is almost a moot point as the forces exerted on them are normally well below what it would take to break either type of weld. If you were to take two pieces of flat bar and butt them together end to end with a weld, then try to pull them apart, that would be a tension load. If you took the same two pieces, overlapped them and welded the sides, that would be a shear load. As to what will fit, you will need to check with the vender on that one.
