Anyone else do the Giving Tree thing?

A couple of years ago (while shopping for high $$$ diesel pickups) I ran into a Giving Tree with gift ideas for somone less fortunate...

When you look at some of those tags, like a man in a nursing home who would like a poster with horses and a warm blanket, or a single mom who would like a gift certificate at the local utility to help with winter heat, it's tough to walk away without taking a few tags to get gifts for...

Since shopping for the usual people on my gift list is often an exercise in what to get someone who has everything, I've found that I really look forward to getting a few gifts for someone I don't know each year.

I know it's kind of strange coming from me (since I've been accused of being politically somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun), but it's tough to see some of the tags that are still on the tree that no one has gotten gifts for.

Anyhow, I thought I'd make the suggestion that if Christmas has seemed a little commercial and hollow lately, try walking by one of those trees...

I try to do something for the less fortunate every Christmas...more then usual.
This year I think it will be our local Humane Society as its filled over capacity with cats and dogs. They need food and cat litter.
I will take a load out to them this week.

Same here

I love those kinds of things. Down in PA paragon does a toys for tots things. It's a huge off road park for 4x4's and ATV's and all you do is bring a toy and enjoy the day. It's great knowing your having a fun day, and making somebody elses day better.

It's one thing when somebody needs something (blanket, food, clothes) or when somebody want's something. I always go for needs, you put a blanket or food, you need that, those are the ones I pick. I really wish you could get in contact with some of them. You know go drop off the presents, bring them a full cooked meal or something, that would be great.

I Dont Buy Gift For Friends Or Even Family All They Get Is A Card From Me, But I Spend At Least $500.00 Every Year For The Last 5 Years On A Giving Tree For The Local Orfanage. You Really See Whats Important In Life When You See The Most Simple Things These Kids Ask For.
