I'm thinking of consigning my RV. Just wondering if anyone has done this and what the experience was? The local dealer says he can sell mine fairly quick....or so he says. Any info would be helpful.

I work at a motorcycle dealership and we sell a few bikes like that. The way we do it is we get 10% or 15% or what it sells for but we will ask more then the customer wants that way we are able to get our cut and the customer still gets the amount they want (customer wants 8k we will ask 9,200). At any time the customer can come in and take his bike i.e. if they wants to ride it over the weekend they can pick it up on friday and bring it back on monday. What this does it lets people that are in the market for that kind of unit see one that they might not have seen otherwise. If all goes according to plan its win win for both parties.

I consigned one to a dealer in Austin a few years ago. While they had it they stripped some of the parts out of it, then tried their best to keep me from pulling it off the lot when I discovered the lights were missing. Turns out there was more than that missing after a better inspection. Insurance paid for the theft and I found a buyer on my own. I also found out that the salesmen rarely took customers back to where the used units were parked. More money in selling a new one. Good luck with yours, it has to be a better experience than what I had.

Thanks for the info. I sent them an email, and they called me twice trying to get in touch. They also said they only have one used one so it should sell fairly quick. I hope it works out for the best, as I need to sell the thing quickly.

I tried it with mine last year and they put it in the back of the lot a few blocks away from there main lot and dident show it to anyone the entire 6 months they had it. I took it back and have been using it and parked it in the front yard with a sign on it and have had some interest but not sold it yet. I have decided to just keep it a while longer or try and trade it. I know the owner a little and he has sold a few others on consighnment this summer but they where units that had bunks and there hot rite now. My toy hauler is not.

Tony what brand of rv?have you tried posting an ad on that brands forum or Craigs List?

It is a 2003 Keystone cougar. No I haven't on that brands forum....I have thought of Craigs list I have just been so busy I haven't got it on their yet.

I vote for Craigslist also. I sold my boat on there this spring in less than 2 weeks. Add a little to what you want, then when they bargain with you, you still get what you wanted in the first place. I also found the camper I bought in July on there. Put some good pictures up and a very good, detailed description and you will get lots of attention pretty quick. The only bad thing is right now you are coming to the end of most people's camping season, so response may be a little slower.

My one experience was poor. They used mine as a part house to get the used ones they owned up and running and out the doorl. They even swapped out my refrigerator. I nailed them very hard when I found out what had happened - - they made everything right including a brand new refrigerator. I pulled the unit, gave them a list of what I wanted, gave them 20 days to have EVERYTHING needed to make it right, set the appointment to take it in and sat in the unit and watched everything as it was done and charged them for my time doing it.

There is a place here in Houston called pplmotorhomes.com . They are the largest consignment dealer in the country. I have bought 2 fivers there, plus get my servce work done. There may be someplace sililarin OK.
I think RV.net may be another option?

If you decide to leave it with him, take pictures of everything at the lot so he can see you doing it. Interior, exterior, everything. Take serial numbers of such as the microwave and refer and converter.

X2 on PPL. I sold our last trailer there, and they got 10%; however, they sold it for more than I would've got, and faster. They had a pretty full lot last time I was by there. I would look for something simular in OK.

Thanks for all the input. I took it to one of the biggest in the area, and best rated....for what it is worth. I hope all goes well, and they get it sold fast! I went by today just to see where it was located on the lot, and they have it out for show, so we'll see.
