Anybody sorry for putting on 285's?

Hey guys,
I am looking to put on either 265's or 285's on my 05 2500 ST. The ST came with the 245 Michelin POS tire. I have located a set of factory alloy wheels to upgrade with, and have narrowed it down to BFG AT's(which I ran religiously on my Toyotas) or the Toyo A/T.
The 285 looks a lot bigger than the 265. Is there anyone out there who went 285 and is sorry??
Thanks.

I put a set of 295's on my 06. About 5% off on speed and mileage. I like 'em.

I have never heard of anyone that was disappointed although with everything we do, I am sure there is someone. I won't ever run 265's again. the 285 fits the wheel well better and I can't think of any negative effects. I have 4.10 gears so I liked the fact it dropped the rpm's a bit while cruising 75-80.

I really like my 285 Toyo's.. Just wish they would have lasted longer.. They were pretty much useless at 25K miles, now at 39K miles I am just trying to wear them out enough to get money back on my 50K mile warranty.

I was sorry I went with 285s; I got rid of them and jumped to 35s. It takes a 33 or 35 to fill a 4x4 fenderwell and look right anyway. If you go with a 285, make sure it's a 285/75/17 and not a 70/17. We had this tire on the 2wd and it was perfect. Another good tire other than Toyo is the Nitto Dura Grappler; I wouldn't even consider BFGs for ride quality and wear...

Tom, I am with ya. I guess I was saying never a 265 again, but yes, moving to a 35 sure makes the truck look real good.

As far as tire wear, I have the Hankook 285's and right now the have 30,000 on them and I know I will get 45,000 easy and I don't wear them down until they are bald.

Yeah, I've heard good things about the Hankooks too, I just haven't had a set.

265 and 285 are the tread width and NOT the tire height or diameter.

a 265/80-17 tire is actually an inch taller than a 285/70-17.

I use a 265/80-17. The tread width is fine, traction has been excellent in all conditions. But I wish I had gone to a taller tire.

Who makes a 265/80?

The 285's work fine and generally you need no changes to to alignment. You would be a lot sorrier if you went with BFG's over the Toyos than going to a 285.

The 265\285 is the section width of the tire, not the tread. Tread and section width is frequently quite different.

An 80 tires has too much sidewall for an all around tire and a heavy vehicle. Too much flex under load if ity has a decent ride, too rough ride if the sidewalls are strengthened. They work but only in specific situations. Anything more than a 75 if your towing always ends up with issues with sidewalls, balance, etc.

Never had any trouble with my 285s. Look a lot better than the 265s.

I'd like to try them. I'm a real tire ***** actually, I'll get to them sooner or later. I'm running the new Nitto Trail MT in a 35x12.50x20 right now so it will be awhile. I just have a fuzzy, warm spot in my heart for Toyos because they've all performed flawlessly in the real world of actually being used HARD in EVERY condition; not on a road queen of a pickup.
