Any tips to putting Flares on?

Any tips before i start tackling bushwacker pocket style flares myself? I will use blowdrier to remove C decals and fishing line. What about fenders themselves? easy to drill into fender? remove and trace mudflap location? remove/buff/prime any rust underneath where fender will sit?

Before you put them on, buy a 1/2" wide role of adhesive clear rockguard ( The type used on leading edges on hoods etc. it's clear, not sure of the brand, i think 3m makes it) and put it on your fenders where the flare meets the paint. It will keep the flare from rubbing though your paint, just incase you ever have to take them off in the future.

I am doing mine tomorrow and I think I'll be doing both (the weatherstrip type stuff and the clear bra vinyl stuff)

I would recommend using the 3m clear tape also. Even with the rubber edge the flare will rub through the paint. If you are in a sandy area the wind will also sand blast a line along the flare. When I put mine on it took only three weeks to see a line on all four fenders where the flare was.

drill ????? what did you get that you need to drill for ?????? I think it was 3 or 4 stock trim screws and a couple clips to put mine on, no drilling at all, the nuts bolts on the flares are looks only. biggest pita is doing the ruber trim for the flare, that sticky tape barely holds on and requres a lot of patience. might have 2 strips to cut in half and use on each flare, make sure you use the correct ones or you will end up with a bit of scrap and not enough to do continuous. ie the strips are different lengths and need to be cheked for size to see which on fits correct.

You probably got some of those little prep sticks that you have to crack and then rub on the area where the flare sticks to the fender. Make sure you do not go too wide with this because that stuff won't come off and you will definitely see it after you are done. I did that on my 03 and was very unhappy that the directions didn't tell me to make sure I stuck within the exact area where the flare would be mounted.....

ps side was a breeze decal came off good. driver side paint came off because DECAL was some reason glued on with black glue/silicone. heating it didnt help. i buffed it up asap and put rust check white paint on it. luckily fender flare covers 80% of it but theres still defect on front of flare.
