Re:Any 03' HO Cummins Converts From Superduties?

Ahh the 6.0 POS blowing up on a regular basis.. Lemme see u get fuel in the oil, F*rd tells the tech to put a new turbo on because the bearings are cooked but they say the rest of the engine will last 300k?? Yeahhh surrrreeeee......
All my trucks up to this point have been ford. The cummins was too loud for me as I spend alot of time in my truck. I liked the ZF better than the NV5600 but am getting used to the NV. I think the new Dodge is a good looking truck but also think the Ford is a good looking truck. I could get a better fleet price on the Ford but did not want to risk the engine problems. Also the standards were not available until May....
Not to mention I worked for a Ford dealer for many years and am peeved at the way they hacked the warranty times to nothing. (I was in service) Why should I support a company who does not give a rats behind about their techs. Tech support is non existent.
I bought this truck Jan and so far 15k trouble free. CO2 re-flash, alt bracket busted and a light on the dash flashes but it runs fine. Just don't use the exhaust brake in the rain with a trailer you will go sideways... don't ask.....

I had three Powerstroke Ford Super Duty's before my Dodge.
What swayed me to the Dodge this time is I drove one and I also wanted a factory approved exhaust brake.
Randy

I agree, the Dodge warranty clinched it for me. The Superduty makeover is probably still a couple of years away.
The HO Cummins is proven reliable which for me is Job Number One. These trucks are so expensive now, they have to be darn near perfect out of the box, especially their durability which is why diesels cost what they do. But, I wish Dodge would put better seats in the cab like the Superduty's and we'll see if the 48 R and the 4 x 4 transfer case are as good as the motor. Both good trucks but Dodge now has the edge in my opinion.

I haven't bought anything yet and may change my mind again, who knows? I've gone from Dodge to Ford and now back to Dodge again with consideration given to the Duramax, too. Nobody makes exactly what I want but I guess Dodge comes closest, provided that I buy a 2wd.

Ford disadvantages: From what I've read, unreliable engine. As yet unproven auto transmission.

Dodge disadvantages: On 4x4, no hubs. As yet unproven auto transmission. Price (I can buy a Ford or GM through X plan).

GM disadvantages: Ugly and the Duramax engine just doesn't light my fire.

So as long as I stay with 2wd and 6 speed, the Dodge looks best to me.

I like the 4x4 system Dodge has. I never have to get dirty just reach down pull a lever and off I go. I have lock out hubs on my 88 dodge and I hated it. When you get stuck and have to get out to lock the hubs you drag mud and dirt into the cab it just makes a mess. I have never owned a super duty but Have driven them and worked with them. Never really liked the sound of a stroker and their v10 leaves something to be desired :-X
dm01

I forgot to list another reason why 4x4's are off my list, but it's common to all manufacturers--they're too high off the ground. There is no functional requirement that requires the floor of the bed to be 48 inches off the ground--it's nothing but styling.

Regarding 4x4 hubs: You don't have to get out with automatic hubs. The Dodge 4x4 system, with no hubs, is as advanced as a 1944 M37 weapons carrier.

Auto hubs work fine if not abused. Having the front drive-train always turning seems to me to be a waste. Not to mention a possible source for unwanted vibration.

To high off the ground? Not in my back country.

Re:Any 03' HO Cummins Converts From Superduties?

Most of my "roads" are boulder strewn rock ranch roads cut into the mountains many years ago. Without very high clearance you'll certainly risk ripping the transfer case off and probably the fuel tank too. Most common are throwing rocks up into the undercarriage "vitals" which can leave you with a very long walk home. Cel phones don't work back in there and I'm getting too old to sleep under the stars like I used to.
Honestly, the higher clearance the better.

I think they're telling me about September delivery. Hard to pin them down. Very anxious to see how the Dodge product holds up. I agree with y'all about the auto hubs, who wants to get out in a driving rainstorm, lightning all around and 100 miles from town to turn your hubs. The Superduty shift on the fly auto hubs have worked flawlessy for me and I hope the Dodge's will be as dependable.

Vittorio, unless Dodge changes something (and I hope they do), you won't have any hubs to worry about, manual or automatic.

Dodge seems to think the everything-turning-all-the-time system, ala my M151 Jeep, is the way to go.

Not only do I like the looks that my 4x4 offers, but I have needed the clearance quite a few times getting back to my buddies to pull their butts out (don't ask). Besides, you ever seen the way a teenage girl looks at a 4x4 truck?
