Anti Theft

HI,

Am new to Dodge Cummins forum but still have 7.3 excursion. The question is, how do I test the anti theft. I have the lignt that sys it is activated but hace tryed opening door, bumping it banging on hood etc. and cannot ctivate the blinking lights and horn. How do you know if you really have it and / or test it to see if it works.

Love the cummins.

2001 Ram 24 valve Cummins 2500
2001 Excursion Limited 7.3, super chip, mgnaflow exaust, ranchhand grill guard.

Thanks

Jim

Get in the vehicle and close both doors. Headlights must be off. Roll down the window. Take key out of igntion, get out and either lock door using lock cylinder or "lock" button on fob if you have one. Now the led should blink rapidly for 15 secs, don't touch anything until it's done or you will abourt the vtss arming process. Now try reaching in through the window and unlock the door using the mechanical door lock actuator and open the door.

That will make some noise but the real question is: will anyone (including a theif) care if your alarm is going off?
Most peoples first reaction is to mutter "turn that EDIT thing off!!!
Try it in a busy parking lot or about the time everyone in your neighborhood goes to bed and see what kind of reaction you get. You'd might be supprised!!

Push unlock on your keyfob, or cycle the key in the door cylinder.

Welcome to the site Silverstreaker! After much investigation on the subject of stock alarms I've found out that the stock alarm merely covers someone getting into your truck through the doors, probably after breaking a window. It's a passive system meaning no motion sensor or glass breakage sensor. On my 01 the lights don't flash either. Only if 'panic' is pressed on the key fob will the lights pulse with the horn blowing. It's real basic, just a passive security system. Hope this helps, Kurt
